Blake Shelton is preparing for the New Year with a huge goal in mind to better himself and to improve the lives of those that he loves. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Shelton dropped the bomb on fans that he plans to end his drinking habit in the New Year, going sober to focus on being a better parent and husband.

Sitting next to his wife, Gwen Stefani, Shelton explained that this has been a desire of his for a long time, but the idea of becoming sober has been too difficult for him to make come true. Now, with the help of his wife and the motivation provided by his family, he plans to give it a real try in the New Year and seems confident that he can pull off the massive goal.

Shelton isn’t planning to use any loopholes, either. He said that while the couple has a million things that they could be doing to party on New Year’s Eve, saying, “If we’re at home during New Year’s Eve, we’re probably going to bed before it even happens.”

In a video on X, shared by Forgwenandblake, the star country singer explains his plan to Entertainment Tonight. The question was phrased in a way that makes it seem that Shelton has tried to give up alcohol at different times in the past but was unsuccessful.

Here was Shelton’s response when asked what his one New Year’s Resolution that has alluded him over the years. He said, “I haven’t managed to stop drinking yet. Even cutting back has been hard. I mean, it’s a resolution, though. And I’ll say it again right now – that’s my New Year’s resolution. To either cut back or stop drinking altogether. Let’s just say I said it.”

His wife, Gwen Stefani, had a change of plans, according to People. Instead of spending the night with her husband, she has been called out to Las Vegas for a performance she told herself wouldn’t attend last year. With that news, Shelton is going to have to find some new plans for New Year’s Eve this time around.

Stefani told People, “Well, it’s funny because I was going to be at his show, and then Vegas called and wanted me to be in Vegas… Last year I did Vegas and I was like, ‘Remind me to never do Vegas again.’ [But] you sometimes want to… not be the host. So I was like, ‘Eh, I’m gonna do it.’ If you’re gonna be working then I’m gonna be working — so I’m just gonna fly in and out it’s gonna be awesome. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Stefani picked a different New Year’s Resolution, keeping it strictly business by saying that her goal is to put out a new record in the 2024 calendar year. Fans are fired up after hearing that there is hope and reason to believe that a new Gwen Stefani album will be released in the coming months. As for Blake Shelton, his fans will be sending prayers his way as he embarks on one of the hardest battles of his life.
