Some of country musics most long lasting couples have opened up recently about what it takes to make it in marriage amidst the bright lights of stages all across the country. With the constant hustle and bustle that comes with a life on the road, nearly all of them still talk about regular issues like children and communication as the most important factor in a marriage.
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are a great example of commitment, having been together for nearly 30 years. According to McGraw, in a quote shared by Fox News Digital, one simple rule that the couple made us the reason that their marriage is still working after all those years.
McGraw said, “We just made a commitment early on, when we first decided we were getting married and having kids, that we wouldn’t just walk out the door when problems arose.”
Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, are another example of love in the music business that has worked out as well as anyone could imagine.
Dolly explained that the most important factor in keeping the love fresh and strong with Carl is that each of them maintains their own interests. Both she and Carl find ways to entertain and motivate themselves without the other. This way, the time that the pair spends together, which she assures us is still plentiful, is more meaningful and never gets old.
Parton said, “I like it when people say, ‘How did it last so long?’ I say, ‘I stay going.’
“You know, there’s a lot to be said about that. So we’re not in each other’s face all the time. He’s not in the business, so we have different interests, but yet we have the things we love to do together. So it was meant to be, I think. He was the one I was supposed to have and vice versa.”
Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher are yet another case of a happy marriage under the heavy weight of fame scrutiny. Underwood understands, however, that they are not alone in their marriage. She and Fisher rely on their strong relationships with God to keep themselves centered and able to love each other better. That trust and commitment to God, according to Fisher, is the rock that the entire romance has been founded upon.
Fisher explained, “That’s where our faith comes in, I think it gives us a center ground where that’s the most important thing in anything.”
“And then, your differences, if they’re rooted in that, I know your heart, you know my heart, there’s always a way and it always is God working in it.”
These country stars, and others, have shown over the course of a long period of time that relationships are entirely possible, even under the scrutiny of fame. And now, with them opening up about the secrets to such long-lasting and enduring love, it is time to learn from some of the men and women whom we blast over the radio in our cars.
