Chick-fil-a recently, as we reported on The American Tribune this morning, went “woke” and claimed a new “commitment” to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion that it wrote about on its website.
Conservatives, already riled up by the Target, Bud Light, and Dodgers decisions to promote wokeness in its various forms, quickly turned on Chick-fil-a and lambasted it for promoting an initiative normally associated with the left.
Tim Pool, for example, said “join the cult” and pasted a quote from Erick McReynolds, the new VP of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, saying, “Chick-fil-A restaurants have long been recognized as a place where people know they will be treated well. Modeling care for others starts in the restaurant, and we are committed to ensuring mutual respect, understanding and dignity everywhere we do business. These tenets are good business practice and crucial to fulfilling our Corporate Purpose.”

Similarly, Clinton accuser Juanita Broderick said, “Well, hell. The lines were way too long anyway. These woke CEO’s never learn till it hurts their pocketbook.”
Joining her was Tracy Beanz, who said, “I really wanted Chick-Fil-A to stay grounded in their roots. Isn’t going to happen.”
Another commenter said, “Chinese style social credit scoring for the individual is next. You’ll be graded on the number of high scoring ESG establishments you frequent.”
Another claimed the recent woke decisions companies have made is some sort of conspiracy, saying, “All of these companies going nuts at the same time is no coincidence. We are in the middle of a war, and the claws are coming out from every direction, internally.” No proof of that was provided, but many conservatives feel the same way as they see all companies moving in the same leftward direction.
One commenter called on conservatives to do the same thing to CFA that has been done to Bud Light and might happen to Target, saying, “Oh, they have lost their collective minds. Should we tell them how well this worked out for Target and Bud?”
Still another worried that focusing on DEI rather than merit might make the restaurants less pleasant to go to, saying, “What sets Chickfila apart is their excellent and reliable service. I wonder what DEI will do to this.” It remains to be seen if that worry proves founded. However, as the chain’s main draw is that it is still clean and staffed by bright and pleasant young people, any interruption of that that makes it more like McDonald’s could see its customer base quickly go elsewhere.
The move toward DEI is somewhat surprising given that the company is now headed by Cathy’s son, Andrew Truett Cathy, who has, so far, directed the company’s political action committee to donate almost exclusively to Republican candidates and conservative causes. Further, the company still closes its doors on Sunday, making it one of the few large chains to honor the Sabbath and let its employees have a day of rest.
