A recent investigation has revealed how far-left networks, including socialistand communist groups tied to encrypted Signal chats and a “MN ICE Plates” database, mobilized “rapid responders” to track ICE or Border Patrol agents outside Glam Doll Donuts in Minneapolis before the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by CBP agents.
After the shooting, groups like BreakThrough News, Party for Socialism and Liberation, People’s Forum, and Democratic Socialists of America rapidly framed Pretti as a martyr, called for protests, general strikes, and “abolish ICE,” using propaganda videos and alerts. Reacting to this shadowy network, Vice President JD Vance called it “engineered chaos” enabled by local authorities.
“This level of engineered chaos is unique to Minneapolis. It is the direct consequence of far-left agitators, working with local authorities,” reacted Vice President JD Vance. Building on this point, he said, “This is just a taste of what’s happening in Minneapolis because state and local officials refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement. They have created the chaos…”
For context, these shaddowy groups shared messages like, “26and 3rd,” and “Backup needed at the Black Forest Inn parking lot on Nicollet Ave just south of 26th Stree …Multiple vehicles with many agents appear to be staging there…One confirmed ICE vehicle seen was a maroon Dodge Durango [plate number], but it has driven away northbound on Nicollet.”
Others featured calls for action. “☎️ easy. URGENT: observers urgently requested at glam doll donuts @ 26th & nicollet [sic],” … “an observer has been shot by ice, unknown condition, emts [emergency medical technicians] present, please be safe. EDIT: medics requested to join perimeter in case agents start gassing. ” Be aware there are many agents and MPD [Minneapolis Police Department] officers present,” an anonymous user posted.
After the slaying of Alex Pretti, these groups exploded. “BREAKING: Another CBP Shooting in Minneapolis,” one post read. “CBP MURDERS ANOTHER IN MINNEAPOLIS,” … “EXPAND THE GENERAL STRIKE!” another message, featuring images linked to the Party for Socialism and Liberation, claimed.
“EMERGENCY PROTEST,” another post claimed, “STOP ICE TERROR.” Others alleged that this shooting was an “execution” and advocated “ABOLISH ICE NOW.” Linda Sarsour, in a video shared in the same group, vowed, “We will bring this country to a halt!”

Another extreme clip called on the crowd: “People of Minneapolis build barricades, trapping ICE Gestapo at the scene of their latest murder in broad daylight. Not far from where they killed Renee Good a couple weeks ago, not far from where George Floyd was killed in 2020.” A post similarly claimed, “Alex Pretti was murdered in cold blood, everyone knows that. 10 shots in his back. All of Trump’s, Noem’s, Bovino’s lies cannot cover it up. The people’s struggle will only grow!”
Reacting to the situation, ICE Assistant Director Marcos Charles noted that the violence on the streets was “not a coincidence,” considering the “chaos and mayhem” that agitators are fomenting in Minneapolis. Similarly, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commander-at-Large Greg Bovino stated that Pretti was “on the scene several minutes” before the fatal shooting.
