Hamas recently released, among a few other hostages, 9-year-old Emily Hand. Hand, who is Irish-Israeli, was captured by Hamas terrorists during the terror group’s October 7th surprise attack on Israel. She has been held hostage by the terror group since then, but was released on Saturday after lengthy negotiations between Hamas and Western governments.
Leo Varadkar, the Irish Prime Minister, commented on the release in a post on X, saying, “This is a day of enormous joy and relief for Emily Hand and her family. An innocent child who was lost has now been found and returned, and we breathe a massive sigh of relief. Our prayers have been answered.”
Prime Minister Varadkar was subsequently savaged by many conservatives on Twitter, with UFC champion Conor McGregor among them. Particularly, McGregor took issue with the prime minister’s choice of words and seeming intention to downplay the horror which Emily experienced.
McGregor, absolutely blasting PM Varadkar, said, “She was abducted by an evil terrorist organization. What is with you and your government and your paid for media affiliates constantly down playing / attempting to repress horrific acts that happen to children. You are a disgrace. The day after a stabbing of children in Ireland, NOT ONE PAPER HAD IT ON THEIR FRONT COVER. We will not forget.”
That tweet came shortly after McGregor torched Irish political leaders for their handling of a terror attack on Irish children by an Algerian immigrant. McGregor accused the politicians of letting hostile foreigners into the country and then downplaying the deleterious effects of that decision.
In one tweet, for example, McGregor said, “Blame anyone but themselves. Typical. Worthless you are Michaél. Worthless and spineless! Ryan Casey called you all out last week grieving the love of his life, stolen by pawn scum, and nothing but waffle from you all since. Zero action! Everything from our lax border with gravy train benefits, to our pitiful mental health services, to our country in flames is ON YOUR WATCH! And still no plan of action!! Where is our plan of action? What are we going to do to ensure this stops happening? How are we going to ensure this ceases to continue in our country? Ireland is fed up of you and YOUR TYPE. We are not stopping here until real change is implemented. We need safety. We need security. We need leadership! As of now we have none of the 3. Shame on you and YOUR TYPE.”
In another tweet, he said, “Innocent children ruthlessly stabbed by a mentally deranged non-national in Dublin, Ireland today. Our chief of police had this to say on the riots in the aftermath. Drew, not good enough. There is grave danger among us in Ireland that should never be here in the first place, and there has been zero action done to support the public in any way, shape or form with this frightening fact. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Make change or make way. Ireland for the victory 🇮🇪 God bless those attacked today, we pray 🙏”
He later added, “I do not condone last nights riots. I do not condone any attacks on our first responders in their line of duty. I do not condone looting and the damaging of shops. Last nights scenes achieved nothing toward fixing the issues we face. I do understand frustrations however, and I do understand a move must be made to ensure the change we need is ushered in. And fast! I am in the process of arranging. Believe me I am way more tactical and I have backing. There will be change in Ireland, mark my words. The change needed. In the last month, innocent children stabbed leaving school. Ashling Murphy murdered. Two Sligo men decapitated. This is NOT Ireland’s future! If they do not act soon with their plan of action to ensure Ireland’s safety, I will.”
McGregor is now reportedly being investigated for “online hate speech” over his comments about the terror attack and weak response to them from Ireland’s political powers that be.
