Congressional Republicans Unveil “Defund Davos” Bill to Keep US Funds from WEF

A collection of Congressional Republicans led by Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania have introduced the “Defund Davos Act,” which they argue is necessary to prevent American tax dollars from being used for funding the World Economic Forum, which meets in Davos, Switzerland, each year. The WEF is a frequent target of conservative attacks because of its globalist agenda and the leanings of many involved with it.

To accomplish the goal of keeping American tax dollars out of the hands of the World Economic Forum, the bill would, if passed, ban federal agencies from giving grants or otherwise shuttling money to the WEF. Particularly, it prohibits the STate Department and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) from providing funds to the WEF.

Doing so, the quite short bill provides that “No funds available to the Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development, or any other department or agency may be used to provide funding for the World Economic Forum.”

Rep. Scott Perry’s office described the bill and the reasons for it in a press release after introducing the bill. In the press release, his office announced, “Today, U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10), joined by Representatives Tom Tiffany (WI-07), Paul Gosar (AZ-09), Diana Harshbarger (TN-01), Andy Ogles (TN-05), and Matt Rosendale (MT-02), introduced the Defund Davos Act. The bill would prohibit the Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development from providing any funding to the World Economic Forum.”

And, giving its take on what the WEF is up to and why Rep. Scott Perry and other Republicans are against it, Rep. Perry’s office provided, “Hosted in Davos, Switzerland, the World Economic Forum’s annual conference brings together CEOs, world leaders, and other officials to discuss elitist, dystopian ideas like global solidarity and eating bugs to solve world hunger. Throughout the years, the U.S. has spent millions to fund the Forum and its anti-American conference.”

Continuing its claims about the WEF, Rep. Perry’s office added, “The Davos conference allows the global elites and leaders of countries like China and Iran to argue against the interests of the American People and devise means by which global governance can be implemented. The Forum’s objectives include designing and implementing a global financial system, getting countries to enforce electric vehicle purchases and car sharing, using Artificial Intelligence to drive the economy and society, and other global public interests.”

Rep. Perry, for his part, said that Americans have no business paying for the Davis event and that the WEF is generally underserving of US funding. He was quoted in the press release as saying, “Forcing American Taxpayers to fund annual ski trips for insular, global elitists is absurd – not to mention reprehensible. The World Economic Forum doesn’t deserve one cent of American funding, and it’s past time we defund Davos.”

Similarly, the press release quoted Rep. Tiffany as saying, “The wealthy WEF globalists should not receive Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars. The Defund Davos Act would ensure that U.S. tax dollars are not funding the World Economic Forum and their reset on our way of life. I thank Congressman Perry for leading this important effort.”

It does appear that US tax dollars have ended up in Davos. For example, USAID has distributed more than $50 million in funding to the WEF since 2015. That funding is intended to “support long-term and equitable economic growth and advance U.S. foreign policy objectives by supporting economic growth, agriculture and trade; global health; and democracy.”
