Rep. James Comer of Kentucky has been one of the key Republican members of Congress leading the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, with his committee turning up numerous pieces of evidence that he argues show President Biden was more closely involved in the business activities of his son Hunter and brother James than he previously admitted. Now, Rep. Comer has given an update on when Republicans can expect an impeachment vote to come out of the impeachment inquiry.
Rep. Comer spoke about the matter during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” saying that he is confident the inquiry has turned up enough “smoking guns” to make impeachment reasonable and that he sees polling as showing the American people being interested in an impeachment attempt.
Introducing the matter, he first told FNC host sean Hannity that the America people think something is going on with Biden, saying, “[I] think we produced many smoking guns. There are people in the mainstream media that want to say otherwise. But poll after poll comes out and shows that the American people are keeping up with this investigation and they realize that something bad is going on here.”
Continuing, Rep. Comer argued that the evidence shows Biden has not been honest with America about what he and his family were up to, saying, “And the president of the United States has been dishonest with the American people. He has lied at least a dozen times about who he met with and what level of involvement he had in his family policy criminal activities. That is what there.”
Then, explaining what wrongdoing he thinks occurred, Comer told Hannity, “We are talking about money laundering. We are talking about tax evasion. We are talking about securities fraud, and on and on and on. These are very serious crimes that any other American would have gone to prison for. So, really there are two things that Congress is going to have to look at here with respect to corruption.”
Emphasizing what he thinks those various acts boil down to, Rep. Comer explained the two big issues with Biden’s behavior, telling Hannity, “First of all, there is the corruption itself. And secondly is the government coverup.”
Then, after recounting the issues involved and the evidence he thinks he has collected on the president’s wrongdoing, Rep. Comer explained when he thinks the information-gathering part of the inquiry can be wrapped up and Republicans can vote on impeaching Biden, which he said will happen in the spring.
Comer said, “Well, certainly, that will be early spring. The sooner, the better. It just depends on when these people come in for their depositions and transcribed interviews. We have about 24 people that we want to hear from, and we’re expecting to hear from them in the next 45 days. After we hear from them, hopefully, we’re able to wrap up our job on the Oversight Committee, which is to investigate criminal wrongdoing and issue a report. Then we will hand it off to the Judiciary Committee.”
