Colorado Congressman Exposes How Sanctuary City Policies Let Gangsters Prey on Helpless Residents

In a series of powerful comments to Fox News, Rep. Gave Evans (R-CO) exposed just how harmful sanctuary city policies are for those who have to live in the jurisdictions, as the policies end up giving a free hand to the worst sorts of illegal alien criminals who want to prey on communities, including the Hispanic communities that Democrats claim the policies help.

Such is what Rep. Evans explained in the context of media claims that President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration and sanctuary cities is a way of attacking the Hispanic communities in those sanctuary jurisdictions, and that Hispanics are uniformly and resolutely against the immigration crackdown. Rep. Evans claimed that quite the opposite is true.

Commenting to Fox News Digital about the matter, Rep. Evans, a former police officer, noted that his district had been hit hard by illegal aliens involved with Tren de Aragua, saying, “In my district, we had one of the first big raids that we saw of the new administration, where over 40 Tren de Aragua gang members and their affiliates were all apprehended by the DEA working in conjunction with other agencies.”

Continuing, he added that the sorts of awful gangsters who are involved with TdA are allowed to remain because of sanctuary policies, and as such have done horrible things with impunity. He said, “We’re talking guns and drugs and human trafficking and child abuse … these are the people that have been festering in our society under the sanctuary state policies in Colorado.”

Emphasizing how his primarily Hispanic constituents feel about the matter, Rep. Evans then noted, “We don’t want these people in our community.” Building on that, Rep. Evans noted, “I have conversations with my local Hispanic business owners with people that are not just major pillars of the Hispanic community, but these are also husbands and wives and moms and dads. And they don’t want Tren de Aragua in their communities. They don’t want their local businesses, Hispanic-owned businesses, to be burglarized or to have violence.”

Rep. Evans then noted that his constituents have complained heavily about the sort of crime allowed thanks to sanctuary policies. In face, he told Fox News Digital that one of his constituents “said the previous several years under the Biden administration were horrible because he would have illegal immigrants come into his store on a routine basis – we’re talking daily or weekly – and stealing thousands of dollars of goods from him.”

Explaining how sanctuary city policies are involved in keeping that awful state of things continuing, and how awful it is for those who have to live under such a state of things, Rep. Evans noted, “But because of the sanctuary state policies and because the previous administration had zero desire to enforce the law, there was nothing he could do about it.”

Further emphasizing that same point, and describing in painful detail just how deleterious these policies are for his constituents, Rep. Evans noted, “There was nothing that state or local law enforcement could do because they were prohibited by these sanctuary laws and the feds weren’t interested. So, he watched thousands of dollars of merchandise walk out of his store on a weekly, sometimes a daily basis as a direct result of these policies. That hurts him. That hurts the Hispanic community.”

Concluding, he once again exposed the lie that is the media claim that Hispanics support sanctuary policies, noting that his constituents don’t want criminals to remain around, able to prey on them thanks to the government’s commitment to protecting illegal aliens. He said, “We don’t want drug dealers and cartels and criminals and gangbangers in our community. So, this emphasis on cracking down on these criminal elements who are not only illegally present in the United States but are committing other crimes is long overdue, and there’s a lot of support for that in the Hispanic community.”
