Kim Russell is the head coach of women’s lacrosse at Oberlin College and has been since the 2019 season. She also recently broke her silence on what she thinks about transgender athletes being included in women’s sports in a documentary for the Independent Women’s Forum.
In the video, Russell talked about when she was attacked for posting a headline that sarcastically congratulated then-Virginia swim star Emma Weyant for what it said was her victory over Thomas, a transgender swimmer who won the 2022 NCAA Championship in the 500.
In the post about the situation, Coach Russell said, “What do you believe? I can’t be quiet on this… I’ve spent my life playing sports, starting & coaching sports programs for girls & women..” Predictably, that did not go over well at Oberlin, one of the wokest colleges in America.
Speaking about the result in the documentary, Coach Russell said that the post set off a firestorm of controversy inside Oberlin College. Administrators at the school forced her in for a meeting, which she recorded and which was featured in the documentary, and strongly reprimanded her for her post. They were upset it was not supportive of Lia Thomas, the transgender swimmer.
Apparently, Russell was told, “Unfortunately, you fall into a category of people that are filled with hate in the world.” Continuing, the woke administrators told her, “It’s acceptable to have your own opinions, but when they go against your college’s beliefs, it’s a problem. For your employment.”
