With just weeks left in the Biden Presidency as 2024 winds down and America prepares for President-elect Donald Trump’s January 20th inauguration, many are starting to question where President Joe Biden is and why he isn’t leading the party as it heads out of power for at least a few years. Amongst those doing so was CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, who said that Biden is Missing in Action.
Such is what the CNN host said when he spoke with Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-MI) on the Thursday, December 26 broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room.” During that interview, host Wolf Blitzer noted that, in his opinion, President Joe Biden seems to be missing, as he isn’t in the public eye at a time when Trump is obviously preparing to usher in huge change as soon as he enters office.
In fact, broaching the subject shortly before the interview began, Blitzer noted that time is running out for the Biden Administration, but the sitting president seems to be doing little to prepare the party for the incoming Trump Administration. Making that point, he said, “The White House transition is intensifying right now, with just 25 days until the new Trump Inauguration. The President-Elect expanding an aggressive to-do list in his first 100 days, while the current President is keeping a very low public profile.”
Then, later in the broadcast, after the conversation with Scholten began, Blitzer asked what President Biden is doing, going on vacation as his days wind down. Introducing the matter, Blitzer noted, “On another sensitive issue, while I have you, Congresswoman, President Biden went on vacation in Saint Croix today.”
Continuing, and getting to his point about the president being missing, Blitzer asked Scholten why Biden isn’t doing public events as his final days in office wind down. He asked, “He has no public events scheduled tomorrow. He has, what, just 25 days left in his presidency? Why do you think he is seemingly missing in action?”
Scholten, in turn, gave something of a non-answer, pointing to the Biden Administration’s record on appointing federal judges and getting them confirmed. The left has been crowing about this, given that Biden got slightly more judges approved than Trump. Scholten then said that people are allowed to relax and take time off over the holiday season, ignoring that this is a somewhat exceptional edge case.
But Blitzer isn’t the only one to note Biden’s absence. Amongst those who has also spoken about the matter recently is Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN). Rep. Phillips said during a Saturday, December 28 interview with Politico that the Democratic Party is “rudderless,” lacking any real leadership as it heads into its time out of power. Namely, Rep. Phillips said, “We are totally devoid of leadership,” and “We are rudderless.”
Rep. Phillips also said, when asked about what would have happened had President Biden stepped down earlier in the election cycle, that the party would be in a better position. He said, “I know one thing for certain, and that is, we would have been much better positioned to win this last presidential election and probably win the House. That’s absolute.”
