CNN Firings Continue as Licht Cleans House

CNN CEO Christ Licht is acting much like Elon Musk over at Twitter and going on a pink slip party spree, handing out “you’re fired” notes to a huge chunk of the woke network’s staff in an effort to clean things up and install competent, trustworthy people rather than woke apparatchiks like Brian Stelter.

Also similarly to new Twitter owner Elon Musk, Lickt understands the effects wokies have on a corporation, or at least seems to. Based on the firing spree, he seems to grasp that a corporation centered around wokeness and all the evils that that ideology brings with it is one that can’t succeed, much less turn a nice profit. In other words, Licht gets that CNN has to appeal to the public to make money, and so has to be reasonable rather than woke.

The DC Enquirer, making fun of CNN as it’s existed up to now, said “Thus far, they have offered sizable servings of bias and conspiracy theory — especially as it pertains to Donald Trump. With Trump out of office, CNN can only spout the same woke talking points every other news network already does. Truly, viewers get woke politics from MSNBC and virtually every other major news network.“

Well that’s what Licht hopes to change, as it seems obvious that a trustworthy, middle of the road cable outlet would do far, far better than CNN has over the past year.

But to get there, Licht is going to have to just keep cutting. And that’s exactly what he’s doing; as Variety reports, Licht’s CNN has more or less gutted HLN, it’s “Headline News” division:

“HLN, the cable network once known as CNN Headline News, is home to a bevy of true-crime series, endless showings of “Forensic Files,” and “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” which features a host who has been at the network since 2001. CNN will cease to produce original shows for the network, ousting the team that has produced “Morning Express With Robin Meade,” an A.M. program that has been around in several editions for more than two decades.”

But that’s not all. More pink slips are being handed out elsewhere within CNN, as the New York Post reported, saying “Also getting their pink slips Thursday were prominent CNN correspondents Alison Kosik, Martin Savidge, Alex Field, Mary Ann Fox, and Chris Cillizza.”

None of that should come as too much of a surprise. Licht has been honest about his plans to rip through woke CNN staff and lay them off since the beginning and has kept making firing announcements, saying things like:

“Today we will notify a limited number of individuals, largely some of our paid contributors, as part of a recalibrated reporting strategy. Tomorrow, we will notify impacted employees, and tomorrow afternoon I will follow up with more details on these changes.”
