“Clear Example of Political Corruption”: Purple State’s Democrat Governor Faces Scrutiny Over $22 Million CorruptionScandal Connected to Her Family Members

In a major shock to the system, a Maine state audit revealed rampant mismanagement, corruption, and cronyism in government spending. According to a recent report, the  Office of State Procurement Services (OSPS) bypassed competitive bidding rules. It approved $2.1 billion in contracts without cost analyses or oversight, which violates both state and federal laws.
For context, these unaccountable bureaucrats employed numerous underhanded tactics to award lucrative contracts to family members and friends. Echoing these concerns, Senatorial hopeful Derrick Evans alleged that Maine Governor Janet Mills (D) allowed her brother to pocket $22 million through state programs intended for rural communities.
In any case, the state auditors laid out the irregularities in exacting detail. According to a publically available report, the investigators wrote,  “Documentation to support performance of a cost analysis as required by State policy could not be provided for any of the 45 procurement actions tested,” adding,  “While OSPS claims that there are often rigorous cost analyses in place, OSA requested documentation for cost analysis related to all 45 of the procurement documents selected in our test, and none were provided by OSPS.”

Laying out the case, auditors said that officials had a pattern of  “Allowing departments to engage vendors for work prior to approved signatures on contracts creates a potential liability for the State and exposure to legal proceedings.”

Reacting to these earthshaking findings, State Senate Republican Leader Trey Stewart declared that this report answered long-running questions in Maine. He stated,  “Finally, State Auditor Matt Dunlap has answered the question we’ve all been asking: Where did all the money go?”

Continuing his epic rebuke, Stewart added, “For six years, Maine Democrats and Janet Mills have taken more and more money from working Mainers through higher and higher taxes to bankroll their record-breaking spending binge. Now we know that this money has been handed out through a crooked, unfair process that rewards cronies and insiders at the expense of taxpayers.”

As we reported, Derrick Evans, a Republican running to represent West Virginia in the Senate,  blasted the woke governor in a post to X on April 26, 2025. He said, “Janet Mills is the Democrat Governor of Maine. Her brother allegedly pocketed $22 million into his shell company that was meant for towns in Maine. ‘This is a clear example of political corruption in the state of Maine.'”

Adding additional context, he included a video in his post that provided the details of the alleged corruption. The video argued, “When Janet Mills assumed office a year later, she immediately approved CMP to clear cut in 145 mile corridor through western Maine without the endorsement of any of the localities affected were all in major disagreement with the decision, and that $22 million that was supposed to be spent on the towns appears to have been pocketed by this shell company run by Peter Mills, rather than being spent on the people it was actually supposed to.”

Concuding, the clip explained how, “When I reached out to western mountains Corp to verify where the funds were spent and the status of the land, my request was ignored, and there exists no information on the firm’s website either,” adding, “This is a clear example of political corruption in the state of Maine, and deserves to be investigated further, in my opinion.”
