President Donald Trump was recently praised for making it a point to honor the late Core Comperatore, the beloved father and fire chief who died at the fateful Butler, Pennsylvania rally on July 13, 2024. During Trump’s inauguration on January 20, the president made it a point to honor Comperatore in the parade in a heartwarming display.
Footage from the event shows various groups of first responders in uniform marching through the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. In front, Comperatore’s firefighter uniform was folded and being carried through the venue. According to reports, nearly 100 different first responders across 19 agencies, such as the Pennsylvania State Police, county sheriff, local police, and more, attended the event in the capital.
Comperatore died after being struck with gunfire while protecting his family from the attempt on President Trump’s life while he was speaking on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania. In his final moments, the father of three was protecting his family from the barrage of gunfire. In the months after Comperatore’s death, Trump has stayed in touch with the family and honored his memory.
Users on social media praised Trump for the genuine show of respect toward Comperatore during Inauguration Day. Conservative commentator Sassafrass84 wrote, “President Trump is a class act. Taking time to respect Corey Comperatore and his family is incredible. We will never forget.” Another person said, “I saw this and I immediately thought that this has to be the classiest move any President has ever made during the parade.”
The American Tribune recently reported on Comperatore’s wife, Helen, who explained how Trump spoke to her every day for weeks after her husband’s death. “When we arrived at the rally on July 13, my husband was so excited. He just absolutely loved Trump. It was all he talked about, you know, and winning. And when we left, we left this family of three,” Helen said during a speech at the Patriot Awards.
“When he was shot, my two kids both witnessed it. We were all together, and I’ll never forget my oldest daughter’s face, holding his head, wrapped in a towel that somebody threw down to us, and she said, ‘Mom, help me,’” she said, recounting the horrific experience no family should have to go through. “And I’ll never, ever forget her face. It’s been a long road. For two months, I don’t even think I functioned,” she said.
However, she noted how grateful she was for the outpouring of support. “The community has been wonderful… I got cards from the entire United States. I did get hate mail, and the hate mail came because I refused to take Biden’s call the next day,” she continued.

“There were two Secret Service people on the roof right behind us, and he got off nine shots. Nine, before they got off one. And it just makes me sick that they allow that to happen, and they are going to pay for it,” she said, recounting the incident. “And I am going to fight for my husband, because he deserves justice. He deserves the world. He was a hero before this happened, but he is definitely a hero now.”
