Christian actor and children’s book author Kirk Cameron brought his faith-filled message to Bryant Park, a location next to the main branch of the New York Public Library in Manhattan, on Friday afternoon. It was a brisk, 49-degree day, but Cameron’s publisher, Brave Books, claimed it had to happen outdoors because he was refused space inside 20 different branches of the New York Public Library system.
Speaking to Fox News Digital before the outdoors event, Cameron said, “Rather than complain about bad things going on in the world I wake up in the morning saying how can I be part of the solution.” Continuing, he added, “Freedom is a rare and precious gift and we need to hold onto it.”
Library officials refute the claim that indoor space wasn’t offered, saying that they offered indoor space at a branch location but Brave Books never responded to that offer. In their words:
“They chose a location at one of our Bronx branches and asked us how much it cost. We responded with the price on Monday, and held the space in anticipation. But that was the last we heard from Brave. Anyone saying we did not offer them space is trying to get publicity at our expense and not speaking the truth.”
An email provided by the library shows that the location offered was in the Bronx, hardly a desirable location, particularly compared to downtown Manhattan.
Fox News Digital adds that the same library that Brave Books alleges refused to provide space for Cameron’s event has provided space for sexual performances for kids, reporting:
The library has generated outrage from New York City residents and local leaders after allowing and promoting what critics argue are “sexualized” drag show performances for children at the taxpayer-funded institution.
Sexualized drag shows as entertainment have exploded around the nation in venues that would have been deemed utterly outrageous throughout society until very recently.
Many of these locations are funded with tax dollars, including military bases, schools and other libraries.
This isn’t the first time that a library has gotten in Cameron’s way when he attempted to read his book to kids. As we reported on the American Tribune, such is what also happened in Tennessee, where a library director tried to hold up and ruin a reading event:
It’s not just blue states where woke staffers fill every office and are trying to use their power against both conservatives and Christians. Such is what just happened in ruby-red Tennessee, where a public library director and some library staff tried to shut down a children’s reading event last month featuring conservative actor Kirk Cameron.
Fortunately for those who want to support Christian authors in the state, the woke library director has since been fired. That came after the Sumner County Library Board voted 4 to 3 to terminate Hendersonville Public Library director Allan Morales.
The event with which Morales tried to interfere featured Kirk Cameron, anti-transgender swimmer Riley Gaines, and Missy Robertson, best known as a star of Duck Dynasty. It was Missy Robertson who accused Morales of interfering with the reading event, though she didn’t use his name when accusing him.
She discussed the matter during her appearance on a recent episode of BlazeTV’s “Unashamed with Phil & Jase Robertson,” saying “He started a campaign in the community to shut [the event] down without officially canceling it because then he knew that it wouldn’t be good for their library.”
She also alleged that the staff behaved disruptively to try and prevent them from shooting promotional footage, saying “They’re slamming books together. They’re kicking cabinets. They’re hollering out loud.”
Further, when his book first came out, woke libraries across the country allegedly refused to host him but then backed down after mass outrage.
