Things got funny on the Tuesday, December 17, episode on “Wheel of Fortune.” It was then, during a season, Christmas-themed episode of the famous game show, that a contestant made a major blunder while trying to solve a Christmas-themed puzzle with just a few letters left. The humor of the mistake led to a great deal of lighthearted fun online.
The puzzle at issue was in the “Same Letter” category, during which contestant Phil McManus was presented with a board reading, “Chocolate Chestnuts & Chi_ne_s.” He got down to all but the last two letters, after buying an “I,” and tried to guess to solve it. He then guessed, “Chocolates, chestnuts and chickens.”
That was, as most know, incorrect. Instead, the correct answer is what another contestant, Matt, correctly guessed shortly afterward. That was the much more Christmas-themed answer, “Chocolates, chestnuts & chimneys,” with chickens not being a particularly Christmas-themed word, whereas chimneys are.
Fox News Digital reported on some of the funnier, lighthearted comments about the incident. “That was my shopping list last weekend,” one fan commented in a post on X, formerly Twitter. Another chimed in and joked, it added, “When I think of chocolates and chestnuts, the next word I think of is chickens.”And, a third chimed in, joking, “Did that man look at that puzzle and say Chocolate, Chestnuts and Chickens??? For a Christmas puzzle?!? #wof #wheelofFortune.”
Yet another, chiming in, said, “Christmas theme episode of Wheel of Fortune! And this was the guess by the contestant. Love Wheel of Fortune but where do these contestants come from #chickens #wheeloffortune.” Commenting on his post, one commenter said, “Since Pat retired it seems that not only does Ryan suck, so do all of the contestants.” Posting on Instagram about the matter, another person said, “I laughed so loud that my deaf dog jumped out of her bed.” Watch the incident here:
Fox News Digital also reported on another entertaining Wheel of Fortune incident that occurred recently. That involved a veteran police officer and former Coast Guard service member from Connecticut, Will Jordan, who tried to guess the puzzle and said “Treat yourself a round of sausage,” when the correct puzzle answer was, as Fox News Digital reported, “Give yourself a round of applause.”
Commenting on the reactions fans had to the incident, Fox News Digital reported that one wrote, “Not a great Wheel of Fortune play here but I like where this dude’s stomach is.” Another fan added, it reported, “Why thanks, Will, I did! Ate a whole pound of hot Italian sausage for dinner tonight with pasta and vodka sauce!”
Jordan later said he “went blank” when speaking to Maggie Sajak, daughter of famous, former Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak. He told her, “I tell you, when the lights are on, and you know, the stars and Ryan Seacrest, Vanna White, I just went blank. But, if your dad, in retirement, is watching this show, maybe cracks a beer and gets a laugh, it was worth it.”
