A 56-year-old man in Chicago was fortunate to have his concealed carry permit and pistol with him on Monday, December 7th, as he was attacked early that morning in the Lawndale area of Chicago and had to shoot three would-be robbers who attacked him.
Apparently, the concealed carry holder was sitting in his car at around 6 A.M. on Monday, the 7th of December. The car was near the 4700 block of West Arthington Avenue. It was then that his vehicle was approached by another vehicle, that one with three teenagers aged 15 to 18 inside it, as reported by FOX 32 WFLD, which was citing the Chicago Police Department.
According to the report in WFLD, one of those three teenage assailants then exited the vehicle he was in and approached the parked car that our fortunate concealed carry holder was in, pointing a firearm straight at him and demanding that the man hand over all his belongings.
But the 56-year-old was no average victim. He was armed and ready to fight rather than hand over his things to the criminal, and so the man, after a brief struggle with the teenaged assailant, drew his firearm and drew a bead on the three attackers. Opening fire on them, he managed to hit all three, though he wounded them rather than killing them.
After he opened fire on the vehicle with the teens inside it, it crashed when attempting to peel away, as he had hit the driver in the head. The one in the back just had a broken leg. The one shot in the head in in critical condition, the one with the broken leg is in fair condition, and the original assailant was found a few blocks away with a gunshot wound to a shoulder and is now in serious condition.
ABC 7 Chicago, adding more detail on their conditions, said:
The 15- to 18-year-old driver of that vehicle was shot in the head, and taken to Mt. Sinai hospital in critical condition.
A second teen about the same age was found several blocks away with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was taken to Stroger hospital in serious condition.
A third teen, who was in the backseat of the suspect vehicle, suffered a broken leg in the crash, and was taken to a local hospital in fair condition, police said.
The victim of the attempted robbery was uninjured during the altercation.
ABC 7 Chicago, tweeting about the incident, said “There was a Chicago shooting early Monday morning after a concealed carry license holder opened fire at would-be robbers in Lawndale, CPD said.”

What’s fortunate for the man is that he was able to carry a firearm legally in crime-ridden Chiraq, a city with a shockingly high crime rate but also very strict gun laws that generally prevent its residents from defending themselves from those criminals. Were more men armed and ready to use their weapons, as the man in this story was, then perhaps the city’s crime rate would decrease as criminals find out that there are less than pleasant consequences for their actions.
