Chicago Alderman Skewers Sanctuary City Mayor for “Disgusting” Order Putting ICE Lives at Risk

Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano, a former police officer and firefighter who now serves his city as a Republican alderman, went nuclear on Chicago’s far-left mayor, Brandon Johnson, for putting the lives of ICE agents at risk for his order that police officers stand down and not assist federal agents even as those agents were surrounded by protesters who attacked them.

As background, in the wake of a horrific attack on federal immigration agents in which the agents were blocked in by an angry mob that boxed them in with ten cars, an incident that could have led to horrific violence, it was revealed that the Chicago city leadership had ordered the city’s police force to stand down and refuse to heed the agents’ pleas for help.

It was over that order from city leadership that the police officers leave federal agents to be attacked by protesters that Napolitano sounded off in commentary to Fox News Digital, explaining that what the police did was unconscionable. “When someone calls for help, our guys go. Period,” he snapped.

Continuing, he noted that this would not have happened but for an order from very high up in city leadership, namely the mayor’s office, saying, “There’s no way in hell that our officers would not have responded to that call for help even from the top-up. From our superintendent all the way down to our PPOs, they all would have gone unless there was a directive. I believe by the mayor’s office.”

Still not done, he noted that this incident, with the police leaving agents to be attacked by a mob, was the most “disgusting” he has ever seen in the city. “This is the most disgusting act that I have ever seen in my 50 years of being alive and my 25 years of working for the city. This is rock bottom right now. This is, to me, political oversight on our police now determining how our police react to situations. That’s wrong. That’s absolutely wrong,” Napolitano said.

Adding to that, the Republican alderman explained that the police are now being controlled by radical politicians who do not have the best interests of the residents or country at heart, as shown by this horrific stand-down incident. He said, “This is pure politics controlling our police. A lot of people at City Hall feel the same way, even if they won’t say it out loud.”

He then further explained that the sort of chaos that Johnson has created is a “catastrophe,” explaining, “The mayor’s administration is trying to create chaos—so that federal help looks catastrophic instead of helpful. It’s politics over public safety, and it’s outrageous. Officers swear an oath to the Constitution, not to the mayor.”

Additionally, Napolitano noted that he loves seeing federal agents deployed to the city, and that as many as can be sent should be, as the city desperately needs to be cleaned up. He said, “I absolutely love it. It absolutely is needed more than you know. We need to clean up our streets. There are a lot of intense gang members and now when you bring in such an influx of illegals who are gang members on the city of Chicago streets, who prior to them had over 170,000 of our own gang members here originally, and they start clashing for territory and vice profits, there is a major issue in the city. So they need to come in and stay here until they clean it up.”
