Many of those who watched the Tuesday, October 1 debate between Senator and 2024 Trump running mate JD Vance and Minnesota Governor and 2024 Kamala Harris running mate Tim Walz were furious about how the CBS News co-moderators handled the debate. Included amongst those who were shocked by the network’s seeming bias was a former CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Lara Logan.
Particularly at issue online in the wake of the debate was a moment in which co-moderator Margaret Brennan, despite rules for the debate to the contrary, fact-checked JD Vance on air during the debate, then the network cut off Vance’s mic as he tried to respond to the comments pushed by Brennan and call her out on breaking the rules to which everyone agreed.
In that exchange, Brennan said, “Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio, does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary protected status.” Vance fired back, “Margaret, the rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact-check. And since you are fact-checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on.” His mic was then cut as he tried to explain what is really going on with the Haitian migrants. Also, CBS News online, it is reported, “fact-checked JD Vance calling Kamala the “border czar,” during the debate, and says his claim is false.”
Amongst those infuriated by how CBS News fact-checked Vance for the comment about Kamala’s position regarding the border was Lara Logan, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to give voice to how outraged she was over her former network’s actions. Logan, as background, spent 16 years at CBS, during which she worked both as a chief foreign affairs correspondent and a full-time correspondent for 60 Minutes.
In her post on X, Logan described her former employer as having fallen incredibly low. Beginning, she indicated that she was shocked and reiterated what role she had filled for the network, saying, “Hard to believe CBS could have fallen so low. I spent 16 years there, I was the Chief Foreign Correspondent, the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent & a full-time correspondent for 60 Minutes, the flagship news program for the network.”
Continuing, Logan next noted that it is nearly unbelievable that the network would try to mislead viewers about such an easy to fact-check online matter, writing, “I cannot believe they can try to get away with this BS when we all remember Harris being appointed & a simple online search can verify that.”
She then asked why the network would try to cover for Harris in such a ridiculous manner, asking, “So you have to ask why? Why would they lie & cover up for Harris? The answer is obvious – she is exposed on the border because it is a complete disaster & most Americans, including Democrats are mad as hell.”

Concluding, she called out the “globalist” policy of treating borders as open, saying, “The globalist open borders policy currently being shoved down our throats on her watch is inhumane, unjust & rejected by all except the globalist elite & morons like those at CBS responsible for this ridiculous propaganda.”
