A career criminal in Chicago finally tried to take advantage of the wrong citizen when he attempted to rob a Concealed Carry License holder in the city.
According to CWB Chicago, Darius Moss has been arrested 32 times by Chicago Police since 2014. After being convicted of four felonies, one being robbery, it is a wonder why Moss was still on the street. That decision nearly led to a loss of life on the green line train when he tried to take advantage of another potential victim.
This time, however, the man whom Moss tried to rob was a 25-year-old security guard who carries when he is off the job.
According to witnesses, the security guard was riding the green line train when Moss boarded and began intently staring at him while smoking. Arguing ensued and then Moss drew a concealed firearm and announced that he would be robbing the train car. According to the prosecutor Christopher Cromydas, while holding the security guard at gunpoint, Moss took his keys, phone, and wallet, which ironically contained a concealed carry permit.
Moss ordered the man to exit the train at the next opportunity and said he intended to shoot the man if he did not comply. That was when all hell broke loose.
The guard hopped out of the train at the next stop, quickly grabbed his firearm once on the platform, and reentered the train car to start what would become a firefight between him and Moss. Police say that the man fired 18 rounds, with four jamming, as he wounded Moss in the leg. While the injury is painful, there does not seem to be any fear for Moss’ life.
The victim remained on the train and called police at the next stop, offering to tell the whole story. Moss was caught limping near the train station, with a revolver that still was still loaded with four live rounds. Judge Maryam Ahmad, presiding over the hearing for Moss, could barely believe what she was hearing as the story was detailed to her.
“Wait, wait, wait. A firefight on the train?”
“It is a pure miracle by the grace of God that no one was killed, that no innocent bystander was killed. This is just ridiculous. Ridiculous.”
According to CWB Chicago, these events don’t seem to be out of the ordinary for Moss:
“In August 2018, prosecutors charged him with robbery after he allegedly threatened to shoot a TJ Maxx security guard who tried to stop him from stealing $111 worth of merchandise in the Loop.
While he was on parole for the robbery case, Moss was accused of stealing an entire cash register from Dunkin’, 39 West Jackson, and carrying the whole machine onto a Red Line train.”
Moss is being charged with Armed Habitual Criminal and Armed Robbery with a Firearm. To buy his freedom in the lead up to the trail, Moss will need to scrounge up a $25,000 bail deposit.
