Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the man who has worn blackface more times than he can remember, enacted yet another massively controversial piece of legislation. After imposing some of the world’s harshest measures to confront the pandemic and freezing bank accounts of members of the Freedom Convoy last year, Trudeau has now announced that the selling, buying, and transferring of handguns is illegal.
Fox News reported that the measures went into effect on Friday, which also include the prohibition of handguns being brought into the country from abroad. In a statement announcing the sweeping changes, Trudeau’s office said:
“Fewer guns mean safer communities. That’s why the Government of Canada is implementing some of the strongest gun control measures in a generation. Handguns are the weapon of choice in most firearm-related crimes, which is why limiting the number of handguns is a critical part of our plan to protect Canadians from gun violence.”
Trudeau then moved to social media, where congratulated himself on Twitter:
Update: People can no longer buy, sell, or transfer handguns within Canada – and they cannot bring newly acquired handguns into the country.

Update: People can no longer buy, sell, or transfer handguns within Canada – and they cannot bring newly acquired handguns into the country.
Aside from the insanely radical move, even the messaging is indifferent to peoples’ values and livelihoods. Update? This guy once again proves how little he cares about what you think, feel, need, or want. That Canada continues to vote for him is a black mark on the country.
Immediately, Twitter users pounced on the notion that anyone would be better off with less legal access to handguns. One user wrote:
“Update: People can no longer buy, sell, or transfer handguns legally within Canada – and they cannot bring newly acquired handguns into the country. If you’re a criminal nothing has changed and its business as usual.” Fixed it for you.
People are going to be so confused the next time a crime is committed with a handgun.
The memes shared in the comments were priceless. And countless other users correctly observed that the only people affected by the new policy would be legal gun owners. Criminals certainly don’t obey the law; that’s what makes them criminals.
The government also won’t be giving up access to weaponry, meaning they have established a monopoly on the ability to amass the means necessary to subdue a population. Anyone at all familiar with history can see where this is leading.
Back in May, when this legislation was first drafted, radical leftists in Canada’s government made sure to note that everything was fine since owning guns was not a right in Canada. Bill Blair, the minister of emergency preparedness, stated as much:
“In Canada, gun ownership is a privilege, not a right. This is a principle that differentiates ourselves from many other countries in the world, notably our colleagues and friends to the south. In Canada, guns are only intended to be used for hunting and sport purposes.”
Trudeau himself famously said that the idea of self-defense is also not a right: “You can’t use a gun for self-protection in Canada,” he said in June of this year. ”It’s not a right that you have.”
