In some very, very good news for those who want to see further crackdowns on the sort of rioters and protesters who go way too far and attack federal agents, such as ICE agents involved in immigration raids, the Trump Administration is cracking down and arresting them. Further, it is highlighting its efforts on social media so as to make examples out of those it arrests.
For reference, the new crackdown on those who attack federal agents is coming in the context of a huge jump in the number of violent attacks federal agents, particularly ICE agents, have experienced in recent months. Those attacks have largely come as ICE dramatically expands its immigration enforcement operations.
So, sick and tired of that happening, Gregory K. Bovino, Commander-Operation at Large California and current Chief of the El Centro Border Patrol Sector, took to X to sound off on those who feel comfortable attacking ICE agents and note that such behavior will not be tolerated by the federal authorities, even if woke states like California allow it to happen.
Such is what Chief Bovino did in a Friday, August 1 post on X that featured a video of an American citizen who allegedly spit on ICE agents being swiftly arrested by the Border Patrol’s highly trained BORTAC special operations group. Captioning it, Chief Bovino took the opportunity to note the new policy in no uncertain terms.
He began, “It was a bad day to be wearing his anti-ICE shirt. 🤦♂️” Continuing, he noted that it was an American citizen who was arrested, not an illegal, but the citizen had assaulted an ICE agent and so was arrested. He said, “This U.S. citizen is accused of assaulting a federal agent by spitting on him during an immigration arrest under Operation at Large.”
Continuing, the chief noted that the incident occurred in Los Angeles, and shows that even if blue states like California coddle their criminals, “Our agents swiftly served him a warrant in Los Angeles. California might coddle criminals, but we don’t. If you assault a federal agent you earn federal consequences.”
Concluding with a joke about spitting, the chief wrote, “Remember: When talking to federal law enforcement officers, say it, don’t spray it.” And, in response to an angry commenter who asked why an American citizen was being arrested, he said, “Not sure if you read the caption, but the arrestee is accused of committing a federal crime…we are federal agents…hence jurisdiction in ALL 50 states and All U.S. possessions & territories.”

Another commenter noted why the arrested individual had something over his head, noting that it was to prevent future spitting. That commenter said, “The netting over the head is called a ‘spit sock’ and sometimes unruly defendants are wearing the ‘spit sock’ when brought into California courtrooms, the bailiffs are protecting themselves and everyone else around the defendant.”
Others commented with comments in support of the federal crackdown on violence against its agents, saying things like “😂🤣Him wearing the anti-ICE shirt while being arrested is golden” and “Give him 10 years to think about his actions and his allegiance.”
