An alleged burglar in Vallejo, California, was stymied in his alleged attempts to use force to prey on a community member when the homeowner used a firearm to defend his hearth and home from that alleged burglar, killing him in the process. The incident occurred at about 9:45 in the morning on Monday, November 6th.
The Vallejo Police Department took to Facebook shortly after the incident occurred to describe what happened, what police officers were involved in doing after the deadly shooting transpired, and to ask the community for any information it has about the case.
Beginning, the department noted that the incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday, saying, “On November 6, 2023, at approximately 9:43 A.M., the Vallejo Police Department responded to a call for service regarding a shooting on the 1000 block of Georgia Street.”
Continuing, it noted that the police found the individual suffering from gunshot wounds and that he died at the scene of the alleged crime, saying, “Vallejo Police Department patrol officers arrived at the scene and observed a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound at the residence. The male succumbed to the injuries he sustained and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Vallejo Fire Department. Vallejo PD’s patrol officers learned from the reporting party and witnesses that the male burglarized the listed residence. The male was shot at least once by the homeowner after forcing his way into the homeowner’s residence.”
Then, after noting that the shooting occurred when the alleged burglar was fired upon when he entered the home, the department noted that its detectives are investigating the incident, providing, “The Vallejo Police Department Detective Division took responsibility for this investigation. The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.”
The department then asked the public for help in figuring out what happened and noted that this is the community’s 19th homicide in 2023, saying, “The male’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Solano County Coroner’s Office. If anyone has information pertaining to this case, please contact Detective William Carpenter at (707) 651-7146 or [email protected], or Detective Daniel Callison at (707) 648-4533 or [email protected]. This is the 19th homicide in the city of Vallejo in 2023.”
The department also described the incident in a video included with the post. Watch it here:
Commenting on the incident after coming across the yellow police scene tape, Vallejo resident Athena Miller said, “It’s extremely unfortunate of course that it happened around the corner from the police station, in the morning. It doesn’t make any sense.” Continuing, Miller added, “I’m frustrated, you know? I mean you also have you think about why are people breaking into houses anyway? I mean people are desperate.”
Another community member, who does not wish to be identified, claimed that the deceased suspect was “a neighborhood regular known for yelling and screaming in the area.” That community member added, “He yells and screams and is aggravated and you know pretty scary at times, you know, pretty aggressive.”
