A girl’s high school volleyball team in California recently forfeited a matchup against a competing school that had a transgender player on the roster. Stone Ridge Christian High School in Merced, California, refused to play against San Francisco Waldorf, citing the word of God and its instruction on the nature of gender.
A statement from the school explained, “As many of you know, our girls won on Wednesday and advanced to the state playoffs.” Stone Ridge Christian then explained the issue of the transgender athlete competing on the Waldorf’s team. “Unfortunately, we were just informed that our opponent, San Francisco Waldorf, has a male athlete playing for their team,” the statement added.
The Christian school stood firm behind its biblical values, asserting it would not deny the “Truth” of scripture, which is clear in the book of Genesis on the delineation of male and female. The school further asserted that gender is not “changeable.” Additionally, Stone Ridge expressed that part of its decision to forfeit the game was motivated by the desire to protect the health and safety of its student-athletes.
“At SRC, we believe God’s Word is authoritative and infallible. It is Truth,” the statement continued. “And as Genesis makes clear, God wonderfully and immutable created each person as male or female. We do not believe sex is changeable, and we do not intend to participate in events that send a different message. We also have a duty and responsibility to care for the health and safety of our athletes.”
“So, after consulting with our students, coaches, and staff, we have made the difficult decision to forfeit Saturday’s game. Standing for Biblical truth means more than the outcome of a game,” the Christian school said. The statement concluded, “This is heartbreaking end to our season, but I hope you will join me in congratulating these outstanding student-athletes. SRC is proud of them.”
The American Tribune recently reported on the Boise State Women’s volleyball team refusing to compete against San Jose State this fall because of a transgender athlete on the school’s roster. “Boise State volleyball will not play its scheduled match at San José State on Saturday, Sept. 28. Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will record the match as a forfeit and a loss for Boise State,” according to a statement from Boise State Athletics.
Outkick Sports founder David Hookstead commented on the news, stating at the time, “Boise State women’s volleyball announces it will not play San Jose State because the team’s best player is a male. Sources close to the situation tell me the players have the complete support of the school, coaches a, and parents.”
“These women deserve to be applauded. It was a team decision to not play against a male dominating everyone else, and they made the decision knowing some people would attack them for it. Next two games are at home. I have a feeling it will be packed attendance!” Hookstead said in another statement, praising the school.
