Pastor Greg Laurie previously shattered the baptism record with an event in Pirate’s Cove, California, where he baptized more than 4,100 people in what was called the biggest baptism event in history. Well, Pastor Laurie just shattered that record with a massive baptism of 4,500 people at the same California location.
Posting about that huge event on Twitter, Pastor Laurie said, “Yesterday, we held the Jesus Revolution Baptism at Pirate’s Cove. This of course is the Site of the Baptisms of the Jesus Movement. I was Baptized there 50 Years ago, as was my wife, Cathe. But we never had a baptism like what happened yesterday. We baptized 4500 people! There was a line of folks waiting by the seawall. People Came from all around the Nation and World! This may be the largest baptism in American history, maybe world history. God Knows, but it was AMAZING! We give Him all the Glory. “Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.” (Acts 2:41)”

Pastor Laurie also posted a video of the huge event at Pirate’s Cove and, captioning it, said, “What an amazing day we had at the Jesus Revolution Baptism at Pirate’s Cove. We baptized over 4000 people! I met people from all around the nation and even the world that came to town for this special event. May God bless everyone of them as they made this public stand for their fight in obedience to Jesus Christ in the waters of baptism!”

In another Twitter post, Pastor Laurie noted that the record-breaking baptism followed the “SoCal Harvest Crusade, where 32,500 people gathered and 6,794 made decisions to dedicate their lives to Jesus Christ.”
That post also noted that “Between SoCal Harvest Crusade and the Jesus Revolution Pirate’s Cove Baptisms, within one week, Laurie and Harvest Church have been able to help approximately 11,295 new Christians dedicate their lives to their Lord and savior.”
Pastor Laurie, explaining what baptism really means to the crowd of thousands gathered at Pirate’s Cove, said, “You’re saying goodbye to the old you, buried with Christ in baptism so you might walk in newness of life, that’s what the Bible says, so you’re coming out saying, ‘I’m making this commitment’ and you’re doing it publicly in front of friends and family.”
The Harvest website, describing why baptism is so important on its “Our Beliefs and Values” page, said, “We believe that Christian baptism is a public declaration of the believer’s salvation in Christ, identifying with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection symbolized by immersion in water. The Lord’s Supper is the united commemoration by believers of Christ’s death until He comes and should be preceded by a careful self-examination.”
Even the local California mayor, Newport Beach Mayor pro-tem Will O’Neill, described the huge rounds of baptisms as “incredible,” saying, “Not only are they baptizing people, but they’re really bringing the community together. And look, we spend a lot of time thinking about water quality here in Newport Beach, but nothing is more pure than what’s happening right now and it’s just a special thing to see today.”
