The Bud Light boycott continues to rage on with no sign of slowing down. Week after week, the decline in sales continues to increase, suggesting consumers have no intention of returning to the woke beer. Accordingly, retailers who have unsold cases of Bud Light in their inventory are taking drastic measures to get rid of the product.
Reportedly, some retailers are drastically cutting the prices of Bud Light to the point where buying water is more expensive. Manager at Glenn Miller’s Beer & Soda Warehouse weighed in on his firsthand observations. “At this point, it’s cheaper than some of the cases of water we’re selling in the back. It’s just not moving like it used to,” said Wagner.
The manager noted that his store’s Bud Light sales had plummeted 45 percent compared to last year. Reportedly, the store sells a 30-pack of Bud Light for $8.99 after a hefty rebate, while a 30-pack of Miller Lite goes for $24.99. The declining sales at Glenn Miller’s Beer & Soda Warehouse follow the nationwide trend of tanking Bud Light sales.
The American Tribune recently reported on Bud Light having its worst week of sales since the boycott started in early April. In the week ending June 17th, sales for the beer decline 28.5 percent. This increased from the prior week ending June 10th, when sales dropped nearly 27 percent.
Forbes illustrated what the sales decline actually looks like in terms of tangible cases, stating, “6.7 million. That’s how many fewer cases of Bud Light were sold this April and May compared to last year, according to NielsenIQ data cited by Bank of America.”
The American Tribune also recently covered Brendan Whitworth, a former CIA operative and current CEO of Anheuser Busch, who appeared on CBS, where he defended the company’s stance on the LGBT community. Furthermore, the CEO refused to apologize for the Mulvaney collaboration and own up to the disastrous advertisement.
The CBS Mornings official Twitter account posted the clip of the interview with the caption, “In response to recent controversy, @AnheuserBusch CEO Brendan Whitworth tells CBS Mornings that his company will continue to support the LGBTQ community. He did not directly answer the questions of whether the promotional campaign with a transgender influencer was a mistake.”

Whitworth initially stated that Bud LIght’s intention was never to be divisive but refused actually to acknowledge that the Mulvaney promotion was a mistake. He said, “It’s been a challenging few weeks. And I think the conversation surrounding Bud Light has moved away from beer, my conversation has become divisive. And Bud Light really doesn’t belong there. Bud Light should be all about bringing people together. And there’s an impact on the business. And I think that’s publicly covered on Bud Light, specifically.”
When asked directly if Bud Light would engage in a similar promotion to the Mulvaney collaboration again, he danced around the question and stated the company needs to focus on what the consumers want. He then reaffirmed Bud Light’s commitment to supporting “LGBTQ issues,” which the company has apparently done since 1998.
