In potentially huge news for Republicans tired of years of double standards by which Republicans and conservatives have faced endless, seemingly political prosecution, such as the J6ers and the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, President Trump’s Acting US Attorney for DC is investigating top Democrats who have threatened public officials such as Chuck Schumer in an operation called “Operation Whirlwind.”
As background, it was already known that Senator Chuck Schumer was under “preliminary investigation” for comments he made in March of 2020, in which he seemingly threatened two conservative Supreme Court justices. However, the latest news from Acting US Attorney Ed Martin shows a much larger effort than suspected.
For reference, in his angry speech directed toward the justices, Schumer said, “Over the last three years, women’s reproductive rights have come under attack in a way we haven’t seen in modern history. From Louisiana to Missouri, to Texas, Republican legislatures are waging a war on women, all women, and they’re taking away fundamental rights.”
Continuing and getting to the threatening portion of the speech after stirring up anger with those inflammatory phrases, the senator said, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”
In any case, Martin announced the investigation into Democrats who have threatened public officials in a memo that titled the investigation “Operation Whirlwind.” The memo notes that his office would prioritize investigating threats made against America’s public officials, and gives the example of Chuck Schumer’s comments.
In that part of the memo, Martin said, CBS News reports, “One of the most abhorrent examples was when Senator Charles Schumer led a rally to attack US Supreme Court justices. Schumer said, reading from notes in his hand: ‘I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.'”
In the memo, Martin also alleged that Democrats had made threats directed at Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) officials and said that his office would protect the DOGE officials from those threats and the violence they could represent. He said, “We will protect each other.” He added, “We will protect DOGE.”

That appears to reference comments made by Congressman Garcia, a leftist, who said in a cable interview, “What I think is really important and what the American public want is for us to bring actual weapons to this bar fight. This is an actual fight for democracy, for the future of this country. And it’s important to push back on the chairperson of this committee.”
Attacking the investigation in a statement to CBS News, Rep. Garcia’s office attacked Martin as a politicized official, snapping, “a Trump appointee and ally, sent a threatening letter to Congressman Garcia as part of an effort to silence individuals willing to oppose Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s dangerous overreach.”
Rep. Garcia said much the same thing in a statement of his own to the same outlet, saying, “No reasonable person would view my comments as a threat. We are living in a dangerous time, and elected members of Congress must have the right to forcefully oppose the Trump administration. We will not be silenced.”
The Libs of TikTok X account posted about the investigation, saying, “BREAKING: Trump’s top prosecutor Ed Martin launches ‘Operation Whirlwind’ to investigate Democrats for potentially threatening public officials—including Elon Musk. Sen. Chuck Schumer & Rep. Robert Garcia already received inquiry letters over their remarks.”
In a post on X that was a response to threats made against President Trump, Martin said, “Threats against public officials at all levels – whether it be the president or a line federal worker – must stop. Our safe and beautiful capital city cannot be the home of such dangerous conduct from any side, at any time. We are on the case.”
