In another major legal win for President Donald Trump, he just scored a win in his lawsuit against CBS News and its corporate owner, Paramount, winning tens of millions of dollars in cash and benefits in a won fight over “60 Minutes” deceptively editing, according to President Trump, an interview that made Kamala Harris look better.
While the original settlement was announced about a week before the president’s July 22 post about its terms, some of the details, such as the tens of millions of dollars in ads and like benefits that were won as part of it, are only now coming out. The settlement comes as Paramount tries to get the Trump Administration to approve a merger with Skydance Media, leading to politicians like Elizabeth Warren to allege that “bribery” is afoot.
In any case, the President announced his settlement win in an excited post on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 22, telling his followers on Truth Social that he sees the deal as a very major win. He began, “BREAKING NEWS! We have just achieved a BIG AND IMPORTANT WIN in our Historic Lawsuit against 60 Minutes, CBS, and Paramount.”
Continuing, he argued that all those involved with the “60 Minutes” incident at the root of the lawsuit knew that they had done something wrong and so were happy to settle, even on terms quite generous to the president. He said, “Just like ABC and George Slopadopoulos, CBS and its Corporate Owners knew that they defrauded the American People, and were desperate to settle.”
Then, explaining the terms of the big win, the president noted the cash won and the other benefits that are even bigger than the cash part of the settlement, saying, “Paramount/CBS/60 Minutes have today paid $16 Million Dollars in settlement, and we also anticipate receiving $20 Million Dollars more from the new Owners, in Advertising, PSAs, or similar Programming, for a total of over $36 Million Dollars.”
Further emphasizing what is going on here and what this win shows, the president argued that he is going to ensure through victories in the courtroom that the media is held accountable for trying to deceive the American people. He said, “This is another in a long line of VICTORIES over the Fake News Media, who we are holding to account for their widespread fraud and deceit.”
Concluding the post, the president rattled off a litany of other media organizations his legal team will be coming for, saying, “The Wall Street Journal, The Failing New York Times, The Washington Post, MSDNC, CNN, and all other Mainstream Media Liars, are ON NOTICE that the days of them being allowed to deceive the American People are OVER. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

As could be expected, leftists are whining about the settlement. For example, Harvard professor Rebecca Tushnet told CNN, “The individual incentive in a budding authoritarian state is always to capitulate; that’s the point of imposing costs on speech. It’s disappointing that so many of our institutions are folding especially when individual citizens can see very clearly the dangers of this path.”
Similarly, former CBS News correspondent Armen Keteyian whined about the Paramount decision to settle in a post on X, declaring that the network had breached public trust by settling with the president. He said, “This Paramount settlement is the nadir for the network — a breach of the public trust Murrow, Cronkite, Hewitt and thousands of us worked decades to build.”
