In an incident that could potentially have ended very badly, given his status as the President of the United States, and in any case was rude because it showed an utter lack of respect and concern for that position, a reporter hit President Donald Trump in the face with a microphone as he spoke to the media in the afternoon on Friday, March 14. It was unclear if the incident was an accident, or a deliberate attempt to hit the president in the face while making it look like an accident.
The incident occurred when President Trump was speaking to the media on Friday at Joint Base Andrews, a military base mainly known for servicing the Air Force One presidential jets. As he spoke to the media at the base, a boom mic held by one of the reporter teams swung in and hit him in the face and shoulder.
The president quickly turned his head to make eye contact with the perpetrator of the seemingly accidental assault, glowering at them before. hilariously raising his eyebrows, suggesting in an angry and near-immediate gesture that he was very unhappy with what had happened and that the reporter wouldn’t like what was coming her way.
Then, even more funnily, the president responded to a question about the situation in Gaza, with a reporter asking him if it was a concern of his. Instead of immediately responding to that question, the annoyed president told the reporter who asked him about the Gaza situation, “she just became a big story tonight,” referring to the reporter who hit his head with the microphone.
Commenters on X (formerly Twitter) were quick to draw attention to the incident and call out what had happened, suggesting that the reporter who hit President Trump should face serious consequences for the mistake. Podcaster Benny Johnson, for example, wrote, “Unbelievable. A reporter just hit President Trump in the face with a microphone.”
Similarly, but even more harshly, Joey Marrino, a news-focused conservative account on X, wrote that the reporter should have to face prison time over the incident, particularly if there is evidence the hit might have been intentional. He said, “That reporter who hit President Trump in the face with a microphone needs to be investigated. If she’s from a Leftist organization… jail.”
Also chiming in was DC Draino, a hugely prominent MAGA voice on the platform, though he indicated that he thinks the incident was purely an accident. He wrote, “Female reporter hits Trump in the face with her microphone. He shrugs it off and says ‘she just became a big story tonight’ May have been an accodent – what do you think?” Watch the incident here:

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk chimed in as well, hammering the media for obviously having no respect for the president, as shown by the boom mic incident. He wrote, “President Trump was just smacked in the face by a reporter’s boom mic. Unreal these people. Have some respect. President Trump handled it graciously: ‘She just became a big story tonight.'”
Another conservative account, commenting on President Trump’s very funny scowl and eyebrow raise and posting pictures of both, noted that those gestures are likely quite bad signs for the reporter who hit him. That account wrote, “POV: You just hit President Trump in the face with a microphone and you are about to lose your job.”
