Andrew Tate, the British-American kickboxer turned pornographer and internet personality popular among reactionary Gen Z boys, was indicted alongside his brother Tristan and two Romanians in a Romanian court on Tuesday. According to prosecutors, he now faces charges of human trafficking, rape, and setting up a criminal gang. However, under Romanian law, the judge has 60 days to examine the case and charges to determine legality.
Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, in December of 2022. They were kept in jail until March of 2023, at which point they were released from jail and put under house arrest. Many fans of Tate considered the arrests politically motivated, as Tate is a frequent critic of modern society and is despised by the powers that be.
However, Tate is charged with raping one of his victims, which is a realistic charge given that he is essentially a pimp and has made most of his money by running so-called “cam girl” sites, which are just pornography. Further, the prosecutors in the case allege that the Tate brothers recruited their victims by claiming they want to be in a relationship with them, and then instead forcing them into doing pornography. Tate has essentially admitted to doing this in the past, so that charge will likely stick.
Tate was immensely popular on TikTok before his account was taken down, racking up nearly 12 billion views. He is also very popular on Twitter, where he has 6.9 million followers.
On Twitter, Tate suggested that the case was not about punishing him for abusing women he forced into pornography, but instead about confiscating his vast wealth. He said as much in response to a tweet from Tate News that said, “UPDATE🚨: DIICOT also noted in the indictment to confiscate over 380 million USD from the Tate brothers in cryptocurrency, 15 luxury cars, 14 luxury watches, 15 lands of buildings.” Replying, Andrew Tate said, “Im sure this case has absolutely nothing to do with stealing my wealth.”

Another tweet from Tate News that Andrew Tate retweeted claimed, “Up until now no judge has reviewed the evidence in the case file, It was all based on arguments to keep the Tate brothers in jail and under house arrest.”

Tate’s message largely appeals to boys online, particularly those struggling with modernity and women in it. He largely encourages male dominance and the pursuit of wealth, both things that he has pursued in his life.
Tate characterizes his message as teaching young men how to resist what he calls “the Matrix,” which is essentially modernity in the effeminate West and the surveillance, censorship, and police state that has been developed to protect that world order.
Critics on the left characterize his message as instead him just teaching young boys to be misogynistic, while those on the right characterize Tate’s message as being a cruder, less noble and Western form of the call to action found in Bronze Age Mindset and similar works.
Either way, Tate appears to have angered the authorities enough to find himself looking at serious jail time for charges he’ll have a hard time refuting.
