In somewhat shocking and worrisome news, given her power within the United States government, it was announced in the early afternoon of Friday. December 13 that Congresswoman and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had fallen and broken her hip when in Luxembourg for a Battle of the Bulge Anniversary.
Such is what Ian Krager, the spokesperson for Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, said in a statement issued on that day about the injury and how it occurred, explaining what is currently going on with her and her comments about the anniversary event that she is now unable to attend given her hospitalization status.
Beginning, Krager said, explaining the situation and how it happened, “While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation.”
Continuing, Krager noted that Rep. Pelosi is being taken care of by “medical professionals,” indicating that she remained at the hospital after being evaluated, though that was left unsaid in the statement. He said, “Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.”
Then, after noting what is happening to her, Krager conveyed her comments about the famous Battle of the Bulge to the public, saying, “She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history.”
Adding to that, he noted her comments about the civilians caught in that dire moment of the conflict and how they helped rebuild after it was over, saying, “Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe.”
Concluding, Krager returned to what Pelosi was doing in Luxembourg, saying, “Speaker Emerita Pelosi was personally and officially honored to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in World War II — including her uncle, Johnny. She looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon.”
As she headed to the event, before the fall, Pelosi’s staff had explained “Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi is traveling with a bipartisan Congressional Delegation to Belgium and Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. On Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14, the delegation will take part in observances of the anniversary along with veterans and their families, active duty servicemembers, government and military officials and foreign dignitaries.”
Commenting on the matter, Pelosi said, “As we mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, it is a great privilege to join a distinguished bipartisan delegation to Belgium and Luxembourg to honor one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history. We commemorate the courage of our servicemembers who braved weeks of bitter winter to secure the victory of freedom over tyranny, not only for Europe, but for all the world.” She added, “All Americans who lost a loved one in World War II join in praising the courage of our veterans. Their service reminds us of our mission: to build a future worthy of their sacrifice.”
