In addition to hosting a debate that many on the right argued was biased against Senator and 2024 Trump running mate JD Vance, CBS has raised anger against itself by canceling a show generally seen as favorable toward police officers, “Blue Bloods,” in which actor Tom Selleck starred as the main character.
As background, Selleck, who’s now 79 years old, has starred as the main character Commissioner Frank Reagan in the show, which is generally a crime drama, since it debuted 14 years ago in 2010. CBS, however, announced that the show would end this year despite running for 14 seasons, a decision that Selleck said “frustrated” him.
Speaking about the CBS decision to cancel the show in an interview, Mr. Selleck said that he sees the show as being “wildly successful” and so is “frustrated” with the network’s decision. He said, “I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.”
But it wasn’t just Selleck who was upset with the decision. Conservatives online were outraged as well. Fox News Channel and conservative podcast host Mark Levin, for example, posted about the decision on X (formerly Twitter), and claimed, “CBS canceled Blue Bloods because it promoted traditional American values and principles.”
As might be expected, many of those who saw Levin’s post were furious as well. One commenter, for example, quote tweeted his post and wrote, “No surprise @CBS canceled for this reason . . .look at the #woke #DEI programing they have on these days. . .gone are their glory days now it’s all just garbage! We’ll miss you #BlueBloods”
Other quote tweeters said they won’t be watching anything on CBS anymore as a result of the cancellation decision, saying things like, “This was one of my favorite shows. As much as I like a lot of other CBS shows, I will not watch them anymore. Fvck CBS!” and “I am not at all surprised. Boycott CBS.🇺🇸⚓️🗳️”
Another quote tweeter contrasted the decision to cancel CBS with the sort of people who are glorified in popular television shows like “Narcos” and “Lucifer,” saying, “‘Blue Bloods’ is one of the best Tv Shows that I ever watched. The media is interested in glorifying Pablo Escobar and Lucifer and it is obvious that this type of program that shows a family praying before dinner is an insult to them.”
A commenter on Levin’s post wrote that TV has become unwatchable due to its left leanings, writing, “We need a station that is for conservatives. I’m not talking about Fox either. We need programs & late night shows. Dems have made TV unwatchable. I didn’t know about Blue Bloods because I haven’t watched CBS in years.”
Another commenter pointed out Selleck’s conservative leanings, writing, “And because Tom Selleck is a longtime Republican. When I was in college, I knew several leftist women who loved Tom Selleck and religiously watched “Magnum P.I.” I told them Selleck was a Reagan supporter and they practically cried out loud.”
