Throughout the Biden administration, illegal immigration has surged over the southern border with Mexico. Border Patrol has documented record-breaking encounters with illegal immigrants over the past several years along with approximately 1.8 million known “gotaways” who escaped into the American interior.
Recently, U.S. Border Patrol agents announced the arrest of five child sex offenders across five different sectors of the border over the weekend. U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens explained that agents across sectors in Yuma, Tucson, El Paso, Del Rio, and Rio Grande Valley all apprehended child predators.
“Over the weekend, USBP agents in the Yuma, Tucson, El Paso, Del Rio, and Rio Grande Valley Sectors arrested 5 child sex offenders. Their criminal histories include Sexual Assault of a Person of 15 years old & Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child,” Owens posted on X.
Amid these apprehensions of illegal aliens with disturbing criminal backgrounds, many have raised concerns regarding the nearly 2 million “gotaways” and what kind of individuals could be pouring over the border. The FBI also warned this week of a “wide array” of dangerous threats coming over the southern border, such as drug trafficking, gang activity, and even smugglers with ties to the terrorist organization ISIS.
Chief Jason Owens made another post on X, highlighting the apprehension of hundreds of known gang members along the El Paso and Big Bend Sectors. “3/11: USBP agents in El Paso & Big Bend Sectors arrested 3 gang members attempting to illegally enter the country. So far this FY24, USBP has apprehended 215 subjects with gang affiliations. Paisas (47), MS-13 (30), & Surenos (26) are the Top 3 gangs,” he said.
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida recently questioned the Director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing about the various threats entering the United States via the southern border.
“From an FBI perspective, we are seeing a wide array of extremely dangerous threats that emanate from the border. And that includes everything from drug trafficking – the FBI alone seized enough fentanyl in the last two years to kill 270 million people – that’s just on the fentanyl side,” he said.
As many have blamed the Biden administration for the incessant illegal immigration flowing into the nation, the Border Patrol Union has voiced its dissatisfaction with the president’s job. Border Patrol Union President Brandon Judd criticized Biden’s last month at the southern border, calling it “too little, too late.”
“Unfortunately, a visit by President Biden three years into his term and after repeatedly stating there is no crisis is too little, too late,” Judd said. “Whether stating it himself or through WH Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre, Biden has said he’s done everything he can to secure the border. If that was the truth, and it wasn’t, there would be no point in visiting the border now.”
“But even if he were to put the proper policies in place at this late hour, he’d be doing it only to try to save his Presidency,” Judd added, suggesting any efforts would only be a last-minute attempt to save his reelection prospects. “And self-serving actions when time is winding down should always give Americans pause. Common sense dictates that as a lame duck, he’d revert back to his open border policies if re-elected. Biden is going to the border now solely to try to save himself.”
