Blue State’s “Most Prominent” Democrat Leader Exposed by the Epstein Files in a Very Big Way

Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, one of the most prominent Democrats in Maine, was the focus of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for sex trafficking allegations that were connected with now-deceased pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein. Mitchell once referred to the convicted sex trafficker as a “friend and supporter.”

Mitchell’s relationship with Epstein isn’t new information, as he has publicly acknowledged his connection with him in a magazine interview, though he downplayed how close the two were. In the interview, Mitchell tried to put distance between himself and Epstein by describing him as a person who “organized a fundraiser for me once,” court documents said.

However, the recently released Epstein files reveal that the ties between the two are deeper than what Mitchell revealed. The documents, released by the Justice Department, along with previously released court records, say that Mitchell kept a years-long relationship with the disgraced billionaire even after his disgusting sex crimes were made public.

According to The Robinson Report, the files show that the FBI launched a probe into allegations that one of Epstein’s victims was told to engage in sexual activity with Mitchell. However, the investigation was shut down during former President Barack Obama’s second term without a clear explanation as to why. Another interesting piece of information that has come to the surface thanks to the files involves a FedEx package sent by Epstein to Mitchell.

The package arrived two weeks before Mitchell started serving as the vice chair of the 9/11 Commission. Along with that information, a DOJ memo released as part of the Epstein files also reveals that the most famous and now-deceased victim of the billionaire sex trafficker, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, says that she leveled a serious allegation against Mitchell.

The FBI interviewed Giuffre, who later committed suicide, while at the U.S. Consulate in Sydney, Australia, providing the bureau with a list of names of men she was told to have sex with. Mitchell was one of the names on that list. In March 2011, Giuffre told the FBI that both Epstein and his lover and partner-in-crime, Ghislaine Maxwell “directed her to have sex with” Mitchell, the memo said.

The agents interviewing Giuffre provided her with “photos of prominent men in Epstein’s orbit to help her identify” the alleged perpetrators. The victim’s FBI testimony in 2019, which identified “George Mitchell” among the individuals she said she was “directed to have sex with,” by NBC News. However, the FBI investigation into Mitchell was closed in 2014, two years into Obama’s second term.

An FBI agent spoke with Giuffre and said that “his head had been cut off above him” and that he was “instructed to stop investigating the Epstein case.” The agent’s name was redacted in the court filings. Court testimony has confirmed that Mitchell was a passenger on Epstein’s plane, though the destinations for those flights were not listed. Staff members working at Epstein’s house have confirmed that Mitchell visited the property, however, they did not provide details about the activity that occurred during the visits.

Mitchell, who is now 92, has consistently denied the sexual allegations made against him in civil litigation brought against him by Epstein’s accusers. Mitchell’s name being found in the Epstein files also led him to resign from his position with the Mitchell Institute, which provides scholarships to seniors from Maine high schools. He has yet to provide an adequate explanation for why he continued to foster a relationship after the allegations against Epstein were made public knowledge. Mitchell left his position as a senator in 1995.
