In a highly embarrassing moment for the DNC, Connecticut State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan, a Democrat, has been charged with two separate incidents of shoplifting at Target. He was caught after first stealing $26.69 and subsequently $54.55 worth of merchandise. In a vain attempt to weasel out of the situation, he claimed he was rushing to his grandmother in the hospital.
For context, Allie-Brennan has applied for Accelerated Rehabilitation to address both charges and paid lip service to personal accountability. Reacting to this shocking crime, local Republicans, led by Chairman Ben Proto, have demanded his resignation.
In any case, the disgraced Democrat issued a statement after the second incident, saying, “I’ve been upfront about taking responsibility for my actions, I’m taking accountability and look forward to continuing my work on behalf of our community.” Continuing his mealy-mouthed apology, the alleged burglar claimed, “I am taking responsibility for all of my actions and participating in a program to address my behavior seriously and constructively.”
Describing the incident that led to his arrest, he initially claimed that he forgot to pay for his merchandise while rushing to visit his grandmother in the hospital. He claimed, “During a recent visit to the Bethel Target, two items in my armload of others were not scanned. I was in a rush to bring items to my grandmother in the hospital, the store didn’t have bags, and I was juggling multiple purchases. While I do not have a record, I take full responsibility for the error and am working through the legal processes to resolve the matter quickly and respectfully.”
These remarks are even less convincing once we consider Representative Allie-Brennan’s similar comments after the first time he was arrested for shoplifting. Apologizing after the first incident, he promised to take “full responsibility for the error and is working through the legal processes to resolve the matter quickly and respectfully.”
Continuing his embarrassing admission, the Democrat added, “I respect the law and Target’s right to enforce their loss prevention policy, and I remain committed to serving my community with transparency and integrity.”
However, some critics, such as the Connecticut Republican State Chairman, were unconvinced by these arguments. He said, “It is regrettable that, once again, a Democrat member of the Connecticut General Assembly has found themselves in handcuffs and subject to criminal prosecution,” adding, “In light of these allegations, Representative Allie-Brennan should step down from his position.”

Reacting to his bizarre circumstance, Speaker of the House Matt Ritter (D) released a statement where he revealed, “Raghib will take some personal time away from the legislature over the next month to deal with the legal, political and personal ramifications.”
Concluding his remarks, he added, “I have spoken to Rep. Allie-Brennan about the recent charges and have expressed my concerns with him privately. Raghib will take some personal time away from the legislature over the next month to deal with the legal, political and personal ramifications — we are not in session and committees are not meeting. I will reconnect with him after Labor Day to talk further.”
