In a bizarre instance of woke politics run amok, Former Clackamas County Democratic Commissioner Melissa Fireside, a Portland-area BLM activist, allegedly pilfered $30,000 from her mother’s boyfriend in an Oregon assisted living facility via forgery and unauthorized bank access in March 2025.
Fireside has been charged with a number of felonies, including Aggravated Theft and Computer Crime. While released on bail, she has fled to Mexico with her 9-year-old son, using a possible fake ID, and later flew to Amsterdam. In reaction, the Oregon DOJ seeks to revoke bail and extradite her.
Such is what was revealed in an official statement from the Oregon DOJ that summarized the investigation. “State investigators are actively working to determine Fireside’s whereabouts. Once located, every effort will be made to bring her into custody,” officials noted.
Building on this point, the same document stated, “If Fireside is confirmed to be outside the United States, the extradition process may present additional challenges depending on the country involved. Oregon investigators are already coordinating with federal partners to assist in this effort.”
Listing out her crimes, the ODOJ noted, “Fireside was arraigned in March 2025 on multiple felony charges, including Aggravated Theft in the First Degree, Theft in the First Degree, Computer Crime, and Forgery in the First Degree.”
Explaining what should have happened, the statements provided more context. “She was released under a conditional release agreement requiring her to remain in Oregon unless granted court permission to leave. Her jury trial was scheduled to begin on December 2, 2025,” officials revealed.
Digging in deeper, investigative journalist Andy Ngo said, “A woke Portland-area BLM activist who served on the Clackamas County Commission until she resigned in disgrace earlier this year after being charged with multiple felonies for theft and fraud has fled to Europe ahead of trial. Melissa Fireside crossed into Mexico with her child and then got on a flight to Amsterdam. She had been allowed to bail out without an ankle monitor.”

Providing more context into her political career, he noted, “The child’s father contacted authorities about the missing boy. They had no clue. Fireside is a Democrat who was championed by liberals for being a woke woman. She won against an incumbent conservative.”
Answering the public’s concerns about her child’s safety, officials noted, “While the child is not believed to be in danger, ensuring his safety remains the State’s highest priority.” An additional press release noted, “TSA informed the ODOJ on Thursday that Fireside had a reservation to fly from Mexico to Amsterdam on Tuesday and used an Austrian passport. Authorities said she may have used a fake ID to cross the border into Mexico.”
Reacting to Ngo’s initial post, many conservatives were horrified. One citizen of the Netherlands stated, “The child of a father has been stolen by a criminal who poses a danger to the community. Please do the right thing for this child @POL_Amsterdam. 🙏🏻”
Another comment read, “So she kidnapped the child? This is disturbing. I hope she gets sent back with the child soon.” Similarly worried, one woman responded, “Revoke her visa so she can’t come back. Freeze all her assets. Such a simple solution the federal government can’t come up with it.”
