The father died when he threw himself on top of his family to protect them from the rain of gunfire directed at Trump from 20-year-old shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks.
“He lost his life selflessly acting as a human shield to protect them from flying bullets… what a fine man he was. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for others.” Trump
added, “This is the spirit that forged America in her darkest hours, and this is the love that will lead America back to the summit of human achievement and greatness.”

She’s a huge part of our community. If you’re able to support her and her family during this time, we will have a spot for donations at the gym. Additionally, please take the time to sign the cards at the desk. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Comperatore family,” according to the GoFundMe description.
Trump also extended his condolences to the Comperatore family in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Trump
said.
