In yet another not particularly inspiring comment from President Biden, hot on the heels of his saying that travel weeks earlier made him too tired for the debate, he said that he aims to sleep more and will try to avoid events after 8 p.m. so that he doesn’t have another embarrassing moment like his awful debate performance.
News on the matter came from The New York Times, which reported that the 81-year-old president met with a group of amount 20 Democrat governors in the White House, many of whom were concerned about his electability after the debate disaster. That went less than well for him, however, as his comments were reportedly not confidence-inducing.
According to the New York Times, President Biden allegedly said that the blame for the debate lies in his having been too tired during it, as it occurred in the early nighttime. He said that, to avoid future situations of that sort, he aims to sleep more so he has more energy, and will try to void events after 8 p.m. so that he avoids being in such a situation in the first place.
That’s not all. He also apparently made a joke about his cognitive health, which has been in the news frequently in the wake of the disastrous debate. He said, trying to make a joke, “I’m fine — I don’t know about my brain, though.” Like his comments on sleeping more, that didn’t go over well, and led to Jen O’Malley Dillon, Biden’s campaign chairwoman, having to say that he was “clearly making a joke.”
The move comes after Biden had such a bad night on the Thursday, June 27 debate that many called on him to resign. For example, Chandler West, the White House’s deputy director of photography from January 2021 to May 2022, wrote, “It’s time for Joe to go.”
Continuing, West went on to add that those inside have known Biden is not in a good cognitive position for a long time, writing, “I know many of these people and how the White House operates. They will say he has a ‘cold’ or just experienced a ‘bad night,’ but for weeks and months, in private, they have all said what we saw last night — Joe is not as strong as he was just a couple of years ago.”
Similarly, a former White House residence official told Axios that Jill Biden is “so protective of the president, and then Anthony just protects her, and they often wouldn’t let us do anything for them.” That source added, “The separation between the family and the residence staff was so big, so divided” and “It’s not supposed to be and usually isn’t, even in the Trump White House.”
Biden’s debate performance was so bad, in fact, that not only did Democrat governors call to question his fitness for the job and campaign, but the Trump Campaign was quickly able to put together a hilarious, minute and a half long compilation of his many worst moments during the debate.
