Joe Biden and Donald Trump are presumed to be the GOP and Democrat nominees in 2024. The expected rematch has been brewing since Election Day in 2020 when Biden inexplicably pulled off a late-night upset and won the Presidency. However, both candidates are getting up there, and in Biden’s case, it is way up there. Biden is 81, and Trump will be 78 on Election Day, but neither candidate is letting their age be any deterrance.
Joe Biden has been taking heat for some time for his mental state, and rightfully so. The decline has been evident as seemingly every public appearance and presser has gotten progressively bizarre and painful to watch. This has led to widespread speculation that Biden could be replaced by his own party.
Polls reveal that most Americans, as well as Democrats, believe Biden is too old for a second term. Indeed, many considered him a one-term placeholder while the party readied a younger candidate for 2024. Unfortunately for the left, they spent the Biden Administration attacking Donald Trump rather than preparing a candidate, so here we are in 2024, potentially looking at four more years of an octagenarian president.
The hottest name to replace Biden should he either decide to retire or worse is California Governor Gavin Newsom. Newsom has been on the campaign trail, according to some commentators, and in a weird, unprecedented move, debated GOP challenger Ron DeSantis. It was weird for Newson, as he wasn’t running for the nomination like DeSantis was, unless he really was.
Recently, Biden met with Newsom, and as usual, the president made a weird joke, suggesting that Californians fleeing the crumbling state could do so on a proposed high-speed rail system between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Biden said: “We’re building the nation’s first high speed rail line in California and Nevada. I want to thank Governor Newsom for his leadership on that. And by the way, I’m not sure how many people who leave L.A. can do it in two hours to get there, or whether they’re going to come back or not.”

The love-fest between Biden and Newsom has led some to suggest Biden could bow out for Newsom later this year. One such is Joe Rogan. On a recent episode of his podcast, Rogan said: “Don’t you think that that’s a ruse, him running for president? I think they’re gonna get rid of him, I think they’re gonna move him out, they’re gonna force him to step down. That’s what I think. If I had to guess, and it’s just speculation, I’d say they’re setting up Gavin Newsom for it.”
Kentucky Republican Rand Paul further cautioned against a Gavin Newsom run when he said to“never, ever let Gavin Newsom anywhere near the White House.” Considering the way Newsom has devastated California’s economy, with rising crime and rampant drug use and homelessness spooking people off of California, it may be sage advice from Paul.
Despite Biden’s insistence on running, the left could offer an alternative in the person of Newsom or Michelle Obama, but it is very late in the game to prep another candidate. In fact, Democrats have had years to prepare a replacement and have failed to do so, so if they get stuck with an old, addled Joe Biden, they have no one to blame but themselves.
