After Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, was convicted on Tuesday, June 11, of three federal gun charges, meaning he now faces up to 25 years in prison and $750,000 in fines, President Biden blamed the conviction not on Hunter’s obviously bad conduct, but rather on the weaponization of the American justice system.
Such is what Politico reported based on conversations with two people who are not authorized to speak publicly with the media about the situation but were apparently privy to conversations the president had with confidants regarded the renewed charges brought against Hunter and why those charges were brought.
As background, Hunter originally had a plea deal in place regarding both the three gun charges on which he was just convicted and for the tax charges he faced over alleged non-payment of taxes. That plea deal was, however, shot down by the judge in the case after an outcry regarding it cropped up, leading to the renewed charges.
So, Hunter then faced the fire regarding his alleged crimes and was just convicted on all three gun charges brought because he lied on a federal form, saying he was not using drugs when he bought a handgun despite being addicted to crack at the time. President Biden apparently feels somewhat guilty about the charges and thinks they are coming because of the weaponization of the judicial system.
Such is what he indicated, Politico reported, when speaking to a confidant earlier in the month about the gun charges case and why it was brought. According to Politico, he told a confidant, “If I weren’t running for reelection, he would have gotten the plea deal.” Politico added that, “The president has expressed guilt over the spotlight his career has placed on his son, going so far as to say he believes it’s contributed to his legal troubles.”
That is somewhat different from what President Biden said in a statement released by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre. Speaking about his statement in a press conference, she said, “And finally, in anticipation of your questions, I just want to read the President’s statement from yesterday. And it reads: ‘As I said last week, I am the President, but I am also a dad. Jill an- — Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today.'”
Continuing, she further quoted Biden’s statement on the matter, saying, “‘So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery. As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal. Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that.’”
