Posting on Twitter on April 4th, the day Trump was arraigned by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, former Trump’s HUD Secretary, Ben Carson, reiterated his support for former President Donald Trump, saying:
Today, I PROUDLY stand with my friend @realDonaldTrump The American people should be appalled by this case of political persecution and outraged by the current state of our judicial system. Join me in praying for the future of our nation.

“Praying for America, President Trump, Dr. Carson. Thank you for all you have done for America!” one person replied. Another said, “You’re such a gentleman, Dr Carson. Thank you for never turning your back on President Trump. Your loyalty shows your true devotion and love for our country. God bless you.”
That post came after another, two-part Twitter post in which Dr. Ben Carson said, “Trump derangement syndrome has truly come full circle. As I have said all along, this announcement of his indictment is nothing more than a political sham and a vindictive witch hunt. If we continue on this trend, we will soon find ourselves longing for the country we had. Like so many of my fellow Americans, I unequivocally stand for real truth and justice, not political mischief. #IStandWithTrump”
In a mid-March post, Dr. Carson characterized Bragg’s persecution of Trump as a political witch hunt, saying, “Political witch hunts are the antics of third world dictatorships and communist regimes. The latest news about the potential arrest of President Trump would put us in lock step with these tyrannical governments, exactly where the modern left wants us. We cannot tolerate this!”
Further, in a March interview with Newsmax, Dr. Carson compared Bragg’s political persecution of Trump to political corruption in Venezuela, saying, “Look how quickly Venezuela changed. That is high in my thinking because I’ve been there several times when it was a wonderful place to visit, with beautiful resorts and hotels,” Carson continued. “The biggest thing that people argued about is whether they were the most beautiful people in the world. They went from that and from the No. 1 economy in South America to the bottom almost overnight. This is what can happen when you allow these kinds of things.”
Adding to that, he also said, “When you look at all the problems that we have right now with the economy, with almost 200 Americans dying every day from fentanyl, with human trafficking, with crime, the list just goes on and on. This is what you’re going to be dealing with? It’s absolutely absurd. It’s embarrassing. And, you know, I talked to people from other countries all the time. And they’re saying, “What’s happening to your country?” It’s very hard to watch this, but I’m hoping we’re just going to a crazy thing, and maybe we’re going to come out.“
