A police officer in the town of Arlington, Texas, was killed in a tragic incident early on Thursday morning, with it apparently having been a hit-and-run accident that killed him, fatally knocking him off of his motorcycle.
Dallas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Sisk asked members of the public for help in finding the individual who killed Officer McMichael in a message to KDFW, saying, “What we’re asking the public for is if anybody was in this area that’s got dashcam video or saw anything, please let us know because we’re looking for that vehicle that ran over the individual.”
The Arlington Police Department announced that tragedy in a post on Facebook, saying, “Early Thursday morning, the Arlington Police Department was notified that an APD officer was involved in a crash near I-20 and Dowdy Ferry Road in Dallas as he was heading into work for the day.”
Continuing, the message then noted that Officer McMichael was pronounced dead when he was taken to the hospital, saying, “That employee, Officer Darrin McMichael, Badge #1805, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.”
The department then gave a brief description of the fallen officer’s career, writing, “Officer McMichael was a 24-year veteran of the Arlington Police Department and a dedicated member of our Motorcycle Unit, where he’d honorably served for the last 13 years. He also served as a patrol officer and as a detective in our North Patrol District during his APD career.”
Also included in the message was a statement from Chief of Police Al Jones, who said, “Officer Darrin McMichael was a respected and beloved member of our APD family. We are heartbroken and we are hurting. This is a devastating loss that will be felt for a long time. Please pray for his wife, who is also an APD employee, his family, his friends, and his APD family. They need all the support they can get right now.”
Arlington Mayor Jim Ross commented on the matter following the accident, saying, “As a former police officer it always strikes home when something like this happens. We ask that people pray for the family and the colleagues that are there suffering as a result of this tragic event.”
