Former broadcaster for both Fox Sports and ESPN, Julie Stewart-Binks, has revealed a cancer diagnosis as the reason she took a two-week absence from television. Stewart-Binks, 39, shared the update about her health on social media platform X, going on to explain that she underwent surgery after doctors found squamous cell carcinoma on her nose.
“Personal note: I haven’t been on TV or working the past two weeks because I had Moh’s surgery to remove squamous cell carcinoma from my nose,” her post started. She then said that the warning sign of the cancer looked harmless at first. “I thought it was a pimple that wouldn’t go away, turns out it was cancer,” Stewart-Binks told her followers.
“I share this so that hopefully it inspires others to get checked if something feels/looks off,” she said. The sports broadcaster came back with an encouraging update later, saying that the procedure was successful and that the cancerous cells were removed. “The cool part about this,” she wrote, “Is not only did they remove all the cancerous cells, but they grafted part of my ear onto my nose.”
“I’ve played hockey my entire life, but never felt more like a hockey player than I do now. Sew me up and put me in coach,” Stewart-Binks told her followers, according to a report from Trending Politics News. During her career, the Canadian broadcaster spent many years working for several major sports networks, including Fox Sports and ESPN.
Stewart-Binks has also covered a plethora of different sports, including hockey, soccer, and other major events. While working for ESPN, she covered Major League Soccer and the U.S. national teams. Viewers were left puzzled by her unexpected absence from television over the last several weeks. The posts cleared up that mystery, which then led to fans pouring out support for her on social media.
“Glad you caught it when you did!! wishing you a smooth recovery,” one person wrote. “Wishing you a fast and full recovery,” a second went on to say. “Praying for you. Take care,” another user said. Stewart-Binks’ update also came with an important warning for those who follow her accounts: do not ignore unusual skin changes, even when it looks like they are minor.
Stewart-Binks filed a lawsuit against Fox Sports in January 2025, alleging that she was sexually assaulted by FS1 network executive Charlie Dixon, according to a report from People. In the complaint, she alleged that Dixon, who was also named in a separate sexual misconduct lawsuit against the network that was filed just before Stewart-Binks filed hers, sexually assaulted her in 2016 while she was employed by the network.

Later, the network parted ways with Dixon, who had served as the executive vice president for a decade, several months later in April 2025. Not long after settlement discussions with Fox, Stewart-Binks sought to have the lawsuit dismissed. Dixon allegedly asked to come to the sports broadcaster’s hotel room after a work meeting where she says he pushed her against the wall, pinned her arms, and forcibly kissed her.
