Chevrolet has received praise for a non-woke Christmas commercial that has touched the hearts of many viewers. The ad features a family gathered around to celebrate Christmas and highlights the importance of caring for one’s elders, especially those who may suffer from neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
While the family in the ad is gathered to celebrate the holiday together, it shows the grandmother sitting by herself, staring out the window. Her husband reveals that she has “good days” and “bad days,” some of which she doesn’t even recognize him. Seeing this, the granddaughter takes it upon herself to ensure her grandmother has a good Christmas.
She takes her grandmother out to the garage, where they fire up the old Chevy and take a trip down memory lane. They drive through memorable locations throughout the town, including her high school and the drive-in movie theater where she shared her first kiss with her husband many years ago. As all of this happens, the grandmother becomes increasingly coherent, returning to the family to celebrate with everyone.
Conservative commentator Benny Johnson shared a clip of the ad, commenting, “Chevrolet drops first non-woke, heart-warming ad of the Christmas season. You will not make it through this with a dry eye. Be prepared to cry.” Another person said in the comments section,”I had a brother and cousin that died before the age of 70 of dementia. This commercial is very emotional this time at Christmas. NEVER forget to tell your family you love them.”
“Heartwarming. My nephew drove his Dad, my brother around to familiar places in my brother’s corvette in the last months of his life. This really hits home,” another user wrote. “Shortly before my dad died, he wanted to drive around the town where he had spent the majority of his life. He had serious heart issues and some macular degeneration. I rode with him as he drove. That was the last time her drove, and he went into hospice not long after that,” another said.
Others praised Chevy for the well-done commercial. “That was a beautiful little short film. I will admit, I had real tears. This could be played at Sundance. Well done, Chevy,” one person said. Another commented, “Especially when my nana had dementia it was hard 🙏🏻. 😞. That was a good commercial for Chevy. And I’m not a Chevy guy,” another said.
“Great commercial. Makes me cry,” another said, commenting on how moving the ad was. “What really gets me is the complacent acceptance of Dementia and Alzheimer’s as if they are to be expected with age. These killers have been on a meteoric rise for 30 years – robbing millions of great memories.”
“This commercial didn’t do anything to spark my desire to buy a new Chevy or look positively on the company. Instead… it struck a chord in me that reminds me to love my loved ones & cherish every moment,” one person wrote. “I hope you’re able to do the same & I hope your hurt is soothed w time.”
