A Tennessee family was in Little Rock, Arkansas, to celebrate their daughter’s seventh birthday when their packing up to leave in a parking garage turned into a deadly encounter. In this case, a pregnant mom proved true the maxim that “God created men equal, but Sam Colt made them equal,” as she was able to use a handgun to defend her family from the attacker.
The family, whose names Fox 16 reports are being withheld for their safety, was in Little Rock on Memorial Day for a birthday celebration. The little girl’s father, describing what they were doing, said that they were “Taking her to the water parks, and the Zoo, just having a little family time with her.”
Well, the day went well for most of the time and the family was packing up to leave after a fun day at the town’s attractions when what could have been a disaster struck. As the father, his pregnant wife, and their two little girls were packing up their car in a parking garage, they got attacked.
Coming out of nowhere, the attacker violently assaulted the father, tackling him to the ground after striking him multiple times. The father suffered a fractured rib in the assault, The attacker then lunged toward the wife in the front seat of the car and hit her in the head.
But that’s when the attacker got more than he bargained for, as the wife drew her handgun and shot him in the neck, saving herself and her family members. Describing what could have happened had she not been armed, or not had time to draw her pistol, the father said, “A lot of things could’ve happened and we never know what he was really planning or anything. if he was trying to kidnap our girls or just trying to steal the car or what.”
He added that violent assaults of this sort are common where they are from, Memphis, and so they’re not letting an assault in Little Rock ruin the joy they find in traveling, saying, “We live in Memphis and this kind of happens to people here all the time so I mean it’s not something we are going to let shine down or shadow down on our lives because we do like to travel.”
Posting about the incident on Facebook, the Little Rock Police Department said, “At 12:46 p.m., Little Rock Police Officers responded to a shooting call for service in the 200 block of River Market Avenue. Officers arrived at the parking deck and discovered an individual suffering from an apparent gun shot wound. The area was secured and the individual was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. An investigation is underway. This information will be updated as it becomes available.”
The suspect remains in the hospital, suffering from the gunshot wound to the neck that he received when allegedly assaulting the woman.
