On August 2, 2026, an armed man was taken into custody at President Donald Trump’s golf course in California, allegedly in possession of First Lady Melania Trump’s schedule, along with detailed information concerning U.S. Secret Service personnel. Jeanine John Taele, 38, had over 200 pages of writings that included the schedules for the first lady and members of President Trump’s Secret Service detail.
Prosecutors later revealed that Taele had seven notebooks in his possession, filled with 208 pages of drawings and sketches of Trump National Golf Club, located in Los Angeles in the Rancho Palos Verdes area. Some of the other writings included USSS schedules, details concerning individual security personnel, and copies of the first lady’s schedule.
Reports also say that Taele had lists full of information about surviving “off the grid.” Judge John Lonergan Jr. in Los Angeles County referred to the allegations against Taele as “alarming” during a hearing concerning the suspect. “This case itself is alarming in this day and age with the violence that is creeping into our everyday lives, especially with our partisanship in the political environment,” ahead of the midterm elections, Lonergan said.
According to a report from Fox News, the judge decided to postpone criminal proceedings after a pretrial evaluation found that Taele was not mentally fit to stand trial. The case was then sent to a mental health court. Taele was taken into custody after a plainclothes federal agent witnessed him walking on the grounds of the golf club. He was spotted taking photos and videos and monitoring security-planning activities preparing the venue for a visit from the president.
Deputies who arrested Taele discovered a 16-round magazine featuring hollow-point bullets in his pants pocket, according to details released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Law enforcement officials then searched his vehicle where they found a loaded pistol with a chambered round and another magazine with hollow-point ammunition.
Taele attempted to pass himself off as an employee of the State Department who was allegedly at the golf club to assist with security preparations. Investigators searched the suspect’s home and found a whole mess of weapons including an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a .45-caliber pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition, radio signal devices, and notebooks full of what law enforcement called “concerning statements.”
The case is now being investigated by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Secret Service, and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
