As criminals across the US are let out of jail without having to pay a bond thanks to leftist activists in the highest reaches of government, a rancher in Arizona has been tossed behind bars and kept there with a $1 million bond for firing on illegal immigrants that were crossing the border next to his home.
In fact, he has been charged with first-degree murder for defending his home from the illegal immigrants because he hit and killed one of them, an illegal immigrant who had already been deported from the United States. The AP, reporting on what happened to the rancher, said:
A rancher who lives near Arizona’s border with Mexico is being held on a charge of first-degree murder in last week’s fatal shooting of a man tentatively identified as a Mexican citizen. His bail was set at $1 million.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s office in Nogales, Arizona, confirmed Monday that George Alan Kelly, 73, was arrested last week in the killing. Authorities believe the victim was Gabriel Cuen-Butimea, 48, who lived just south of the border in Nogales, Mexico, because of a Mexican voter registration card he carried.
The killing occurred Jan. 30 in the Kino Springs area just outside Nogales, Arizona, said Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Gerardo Castillo. The address where the killing happened is the same one listed in public records for Kelly’s cattle ranch.
Adding more details on the incident was the Daily Mail, which reported that the illegal had been deported multiple times before and that the rancher has had issues with illegal immigrants on his property in the past:
a friend of Kelly’s told KOLD he has had issues with people on his property in the past, though he believes Kelly acted in the best faith.
Cuen-Butimea, meanwhile, has had a history of illegally crossing the US-Mexico border, according to federal court records, and was deported back to his home country multiple times — most recently in 2016.
So an American rancher, the sort of man who built America, is rotting in prison because he dared to defend his property from an illegal immigrant trespasser. But wait, it gets worse.
Kelly’s wife and still alive and lives at the ranch. He asked that his $1 million bail be lowered so that she is not at home defenseless and prey to the same sort of illegal immigrants he tried to defend his ranch from, saying “She’s there by herself … nobody to take care of her, the livestock. Or the ranch. And I’m not going anywhere. I can’t come up with a million dollars. Is there … Would you consider reducing it to any degree?”
Unsurprisingly, the request was refused. Zero bail is only for thugs, not for the men who built America.
The one bright spot for Mr. Kelly is that Arizona’s laws might mean he has a defense. Under Arizona law, the Daily Mail reports that “deadly force is allowed on one’s own property if the homeowner believes it “immediately necessary” to prevent trespassing.” Here. the illegal immigrants were on his ranch and trespassing.
Additionally, there are “stand your ground” laws that defend the use of physical or deadly force when a homeowner fears a threat and believes the force is necessary.
So, though he’s locked up now and his wife is defenseless, he might be able to defend himself from the attacks of whatever prosecutor locked him up for defending his property.
