Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) reaffirmed her support for President Biden in the aftermath of the recent presidential debate. The progressive Democrat, a member of the far-left “Squad” in Congress, emphasized that “the matter is closed,” backing Biden in his insistence that he will remain in the race ahead of November.
AOC stated, “I have spoken to the President over the weekend. I have spoken with him extensively. He made clear then and he has made clear since that he is in this race. The matter is closed. He had reiterated that this morning, he has reiterated that to the public. Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not leaving this race. He is in this race and I support him.”
President Biden has made it very clear to the general public and his party that he is not backing down in the face of rampant speculation about his fitness to serve as the commander-in-chief. Earlier this week, Biden appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” defending his record and claiming that only the “elites” had asked him to step down.
“I was one of the few people out there publicly saying before the 2022 election, “There will be no red wave; there will be no red wave.” I’ve been all over the country. I didn’t believe it at all. Then, in 2023 key elections, I went into those races, not every one of them but a lot of them, saying we were going to win. We won those,” Biden told MSNBC.
Biden asserted that his supposed unwavering commitment to the average American voter will propel his support. The president added that he will continue to rebuild the economy despite having had his entire presidency thus far to do so, where many Americans are still struggling with persistent inflation and the effects of high interest rates.
“The American public is not going to move away from me as an average voter. Again, I’m here for two reasons, pal. One, to rebuild the economy for hard-working middle-class people, to give everybody a shot, a straight shot. Everybody gets a fair chance, number one. Number two, remember about all this talk about how I don’t have the black support? Give me a break. Come with me, watch. I’m getting frustrated by the elites, not you guys, the elites in the party, oh, they know so much more. Any of these guys that don’t think I should run, run against me, announce for president, challenge me at the convention,” Biden said.
For years, there has been an undeniable concern among American voters about the state of President Biden’s mental and physical health. Democrats continuously defended Biden from such criticism, resorting to arguments that conservatives were simply sharing “cheap fake” videos while maintaining that Biden was sharper than ever.
However, after his poor performance on the debate stage against former President Donald Trump, it appears that many liberals have given up on trying to defend Biden’s cognitive faculties, ultimately calling for him to step down so that another candidate can take on Trump. Despite the ongoing concerns about the president’s viability to run for a second term, AOC and other elected Democrats have doubled down on her support for Biden.
