Although this dramatic event occurred over three years ago in 2022, the protest shown in this clip is still relevant to current events because it illustrates the anger over illegal immigration in deep-blue areas of the country, which explains Trump’s historic gains in the 2024 election. In the shocking footage, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was confronted by a crowd of her constituents angry about the resettlement of illegal immigrants in their city.
For context, the incident occurred at The Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens in Astoria, a neighborhood that the far-left AOC represents. While Rep. Cortez was holding this forum to engage with constituents, she got more than she bargained for when the event was disrupted by a group of protesters who heckled the congresswoman and chanted slogans like “AOC has got to go.”
Expressing their anger at the progressive politician, activists carried signs and voiced their anger at AOC. One protester took aim at the city’s LGBTQ+ shelters, which provide accommodations exclusively to sexual minorities. He asked AOC, “So if I don’t have [gay relations], I don’t have a place to live?” Rep. Cortez stammered back a reply before the crowd shouted her down.
Continuing the tense exchange, one woman yelled at Cortez for her soft-on-crime policies. Cortez attempted to answer as the woman, holding a sign which read “AOC IS AN OBVIOUS CRIMINAL.” When she found her voice, the woke congresswoman claimed that she “Had reduced crime by up to 50%,” and bragged about the number of psychologists hired in her district.
Concluding the chaotic scene, the event organizers turned off the lights and ushered AOC out of the building. As the crowd continued to heckle her, the Democrat can be heard bizarrely saying, “I’m not allowed to be in a room with the lights turned off.”
When investigative journalist Oliya Scootercaster posted a clip of the incident to social media, conservatives flocked to the comments to mock AOC’s embarrassing response to the protest. One commenter argued that her actions would be a boon to the GOP, saying, “AOC is a walking campaign ad for the GOP. Arguably one of [the] best players on the GOP team. Nothing is more likely to prompt an average voter to vote Republican than listening to just one minute of her word salads.”

Building on that point, some accounts drew attention to the disrespect Rep. Cortez showed her constituents. One such comment read, “Wow- a Member of Congress full of arrogance- dancing to constituents chanting @AOC has got to go. Disgraceful.” Another comment chimed in to say, “So she dances and mocks her constituents that are unhappy with her. These representatives are so arrogant and dont care about the people they serve.”
Rounding out the comments, some users expressed how this event had shifted their opinion of AOC and the Democratic Party. A reply in this vein said, “3 years ago I liked her cuz I blindly believe in her…now I know better, she’s garbage. Perpetuating an agenda veiled by false truth …War monger, false promises, etc etc etc.”
