In yet another head-scratcher of an AOC moment, the New York Congresswoman has, in the middle of a campaign blitz meant to help Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, taken the time to make some shocking comments Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff given the allegations swirling about him. As might be expected, the odd move has drawn criticism of AOC online.
As background, Emhoff has faced a flurry of accusations in recent months and weeks, with the focus being on his past romantic relationships. Particularly, the second gentleman has been accused not just of having engaged in adulterous affairs, but of assaulting an ex-girlfriend.
Recently, however, the Daily Mail reported that AOC has been praising Emhoff and presenting him as a man brimming with “masculinity,” a term not normally used to describe those to slap women across the face, as Emhoff is accused of doing to his ex-girlfriend.
The Daily Mail reports that AOC said, praising him when speaking to students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, “He’s not afraid to embody and pass on these values of security and this idea that you can, you can let your girl shine. And he embodies that really well. We should all be really, really proud of him.”
Continuing, AOC claimed that Emhoff “has been so important this presidential cycle.” Explaining why, AOC alluded to “poor examples” of “masculinity and men,” hinting at former President Donald Trump and claiming that such men throw around, online Emhoff, “a lot of misogyny.”
She went on to say, “A lot of ideas of what being a man means putting a woman down or putting queer people down.” She continued, “And this idea that, like, in order to elevate one’s value, we need to diminish the people around you.” She further claimed that more traditional masculinity is emblematic of “weakness” and “insecurity.”
Continuing with that talking point, she claimed, “But Doug really is the contrast – the second gentleman – is a real contrast to that.” The “Squad” member then went on to add of the much-accused man, “He’s able to stand beside the vice president’s side and lift her up instead of put her down.”
Going on to further complement Emhoff when speaking to the impressionable students during the event, AOC said, “And he knows that by lifting up women, he’s also lifting up his fellow men around him. He’s not afraid to be a dad of a powerful daughter and a great son.” Watch AOC here:
As might be expected, X didn’t take kindly to AOC’s remarks. The Western Lensman X account said, for example, “🚨JUST IN: AOC gushes over Doug Emhoff, hails him as a positive example of masculinity. Emhoff impregnated his child’s nanny and is accused of domestic violence.” One commenter noted, “AOC would be shrieking nonstop if a GOP candidate had those things in their background.”
Similarly, Tucker Carlson, roasting her, said, “AOC said that Doug Emhoff is the model of masculinity. Memo to any women here, do not date a feminist man. They’ll smack you around. It’s the weak ones you have to be afraid of. And it’s the strong ones that *they’re* afraid of because they know that what they’ve been doing for decades could be exposed.” Watch him here:
