Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is officially engaged to his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez. This news comes after five years of dating between the couple.
The relationship between Bezos and Sanchez came shortly after news of Bezos’ divorce from his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott in 2019. Scott and Bezos had been married for nearly 25 years, according to Fox Business.
Lauren Sanchez has spoken highly of Bezos in the past. In one social media post, she offered a gushing monologue about her adoration for the multi-billionaire:
“They don’t see the man who puts everything aside to help a sick friend, but my eyes do. They don’t see the man who wakes up early every morning to make breakfast for the kids so they can laugh and talk about life and science and how to make this world a better place — my eyes do. They don’t see the man who wants everyone to feel joy, who’s heart is immeasurable and who’s ability to love is infinite.”
Sanchez has already found a place in the public eye working alongside Bezos. She has made herself become a part of the team that works on Bezos Courage & Civility Award, which offered a $100 million grant to individuals who are actively working to improve the world. CNN wrote the following about Sanchez and her role with the organization:
“The work that we’re doing with the Bezos Courage and Civility Award I think needs to have a voice,” Sánchez said. “And the people that we’ve chosen so far, Van Jones, Jose Andres, Dolly Parton, they all have such stories to tell. I just feel honored to be able to be a part of what they’re doing for this world.”
Sánchez, 52, a former Emmy-award winning journalist who was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, cites her humble beginnings as why she wants to give back. The mom-of-three said she donated $1 million to This Is About Humanity, which helped build educational learning spaces for the migrant children at the US-Mexico border, and said she visited with migrant families on a recent trip to the border.
For his part, Bezos has been in the news recently as Amazon is embroiled in a Cold War of sorts with Elon Musk and Twitter. Todd from The American Tribune wrote:
Elon Musk continues to be a disruptive force in the tech sphere, as reports are coming to light that he refuses to pay Amazon roughly $70 million in server hosting fees that were negotiated under past leadership.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) constitutes some, not all, of Twitter’s cloud-based operations and completed a five-and-a-half-year deal in 2020 worth over $500 million. Twitter also signed a $1 billion dollar contract with Google for similar services that are in effect.
It appears that Musk is attempting to rework the deal now that he has full ownership of Twitter by withholding money owed under the current contract. In response, AWS has threatened Twitter with withholding ad revenues until payment is received.
